  • The 50p sized coment is what makes me think it's nerve/back related. Shin splints are muscle related so the whole shin hurts (I used to get them too!), if it's strangley localised and about that size, it's probably the nerve as that's about the area of skin served by a nerve bundle.

    I should point out that I think I did mine whilst running... have ran since it was better (also do about 3 times the distance cycling into work than back then) and not reoccured...

    Possibly, but not necessarily.... tight calf muscles are also a common cause of shin splints.... imbalance.... all muscles have an opposite ! :)
