  • ^looking to get the sport version, pretty cheap @25 from ev*ns.
    hopefully dont need a getmehome pump this way.

    After Marathon, i got tires upto full 120 instead of 40psi. basically ROCK hard and i can get an extra 5mph from my old top speed!

  • i have a tube, pump, and levers wrapped in a peice of fake leather cut from an old football bag, then attached to my saddle rails with an old foot strap.

    im not into the whole co2 jive, seems a bit wasteful, and i dont get how you control the pressure they release.

    i wouldnt mind somthing a little more elegant to my peice of crap leather. those brooks bags look a little on the small side, and i do like these classic drawstring bags:

    that bike is also complete porn to me. anyone know where i can get a small bag in this style, or even what theyre called?

  • @melon - Looks like a bag for carrying a spare tub, not sure if they had a name ? Try searching for tubular/tub bag/carrier. Let me know if you find anything !

    I used it only once but realised I just don't need it as I don't really use my tubs on the road anymore.

  • lezyne do a great little kit with glued patches, tyre boot and a scrubber bit to rough up the tube.

    topeak minitool with detachable levers that include a spoke key and chain break

    best pump around is the freebie carhartt one given away at the macaframa premiere, gives more pressure than a minimorph

    generally the above suffice until today when I lost a hub bolt!

  • I carry a piece of duck tape wrapped round the pump for use a gaitor to put inside the tyre for those annoying slits in the carcas. I try to carry a piece of tub cover for the same purpose.

    Having been caught out badly on one occasion I try not to repeat the episode....

  • I carry my repair kit, spare tube, and a mini pump velcro stapped to it, all in one of those little bags you strap under the saddle. But instead of keeping it under the saddle I clip it through a belt loop. That way i dont have to think about removing it from my bike when i lock up (and consequently getting it nicked when i forget to remove it)

    That topeak gizmo is awesome and that lezyne kit looks pretty neat as well.

    Are cahartt going to be putting those pumps into production?

  • Just never go more than 100m from your home then you are virtually guaranteed not to get stranded. Simple init?

  • Are tubs more hassle than theyr worth?
    Just bought a old track wheel, 40spokes campagnolo dual fixed hub, can't decide whether to change the rim an use clinchers, finding a 40h rim might be tricky tho.....

  • They're more hassle to put on the bike - have to pre-stretch the tub for a while and gluing can be messy for the first few goes.

    You'd need to carry a spare pre-glued tub with you in case you puncture, but changing tubs is normally quicker than changing inner tubes on a clincher. As the tyre is glued on to the rim, you can even ride them flat if needed, if you can't be arsed to change the tub on the street

    I guess it depends on if you like fettling bikes ? I'm a bit of a tub convert, I prefer the ride and It satisfies the side of me that likes tatting with bikes.

    Maybe get a Vittoria Rally for a tenner and give it a go before you decide to change ?

  • I've never had any problems using tape (rather than glue). And I've never pre-stretched a tyre either. I'd agree the whole thing is actually easier than fitting many rigid clinchers.

    Although Vittoria Rally's are ok the main downside I've found while running tubs is tyres with decent puncture proofing cost £30+

  • I used Velox/Jantex tape for about a year on my track bike, didn't have any problems. Use glue on my commuter as it's easier to swop tubs with glue rather than tape.

    Some tubs are an absolute mare to get on, trying to get a set of Conti Sprinters needed thumbs of steel despite having stretched them for a day or so. Vittorias tend to be a bit easier.

    Men who wear bum bags look very, very silly. Even the gay boys I know stopped wearing them in the late eighties.

    For commuting and gadding about town, I have a plastic tub from BBB that goes in one of my bottle cages and contains a spare tube, levers, alan keys, patch kit, vinyl gloves and some coin-cell back-up lights. I object to both getting my hands dirty and not having lights at night. I usually stash my pump in my back pocket if I'm sans luggage.

    Incidentally, for those of you who've carried but never used a CO2 bottle, I strongly suggest that you try to avoid holding the metal part whilst you're filling your tyres...

    You can end up paying silly money for top of the range tubs, but low/mid range tubs and clinchers are roughly around the same price

  • Archie's Mashton/Ninja or a saddle bag are good for storing all your gubbins.

  • Pretty much always have a bag so never a problem really...Mini pump, tube, levers (ones with metal cased in plastic - I've broken so many cheap plastic ones), multitool, 15mm spanner and spoke tool..

    I can't be arsed with patches, even at home.. I just buy bulk tubes and deal with it.

    Lots of peopler ecomend the mini morph, but I ended up ordering a Lezyne Pressure drive small as it was smaller and more discreet but also supposedly works (I liked that it had a hose) - I'll let you know when it arrives.

    I don't think I'll ever 'like' a hand pump though.. comes from years of inflating massive 3" downhill mtb tyres when I was knee high to a track pump..
