  • I think thats relating to his ability/skill to brake with the bike, if i'm not mistaken...

Who gave you a big spoon ;p

  • before i had a chance to say oh shit (because i wasn't paying attention to the road like an idiot) i hit a ridged bit of road that was parallel to me.. so i sort of "rode the wave" until one wheel got stuck on either side of this pretty big ridge in the road, stopping the bike and sending me flying over the bars, onto my head then have the bike fly over me. i am very sore.

got up and everyone around me, pedestrians, drivers were all asking me if i was ok, i was thanking them and saying yeah yeah BUT AM I BLEEDING, they didnt even pay attention IS MY HEAD FUCKING BLEEDING thats all i seemed to care about.. anyway it wasn't bleeding but its a bit swollen (thank fuck).

basically i have now been scared into wearing a helmet more often. falling on your head in the middle of the road in shoreditch at 20+ mph is NO fun. i think i was pretty lucky i came out ok!

damage to the bike: FUCKED saddle rails, saddle was bent completely to one side but i managed to pretty much completely straighten it out with some adrenaline, muscle and HTFU. saddle also ripped on the corners but thats fine.
stem wasn't tight enough so bars/stem and wheel misaligned themselves, thought that was pretty funny. and last but not least my bars are nice and bent. good job i happened to be coming back from buying new ones..

  • Max, heal up quickly and hope you manage to sort out your bike soon. When you say 'ridge', do you mean one of those of wavy tarmac as created by HGVs?

Sorry to hear you've been scared into wearing a lid. Remember that it's not going to make you a better rider. More confidence comes from better skills. Not that you could necessarily have avoided this crash even with better skills, of course, but it's about gaining more enjoyment, not feeling scared or worried.

If that isn't an Oh Shit moment I don't know what is!

  • just about to post exactly that clip holy shit good acceleration

  • Bloody hell, that is a major oh shit moment! What a wanker, that looked completely intentional.

I would have been fucked on my 48/15 fuji

  • 44/18 ftw ;)

read the story, the people in the bus are the royal family looks like it was planned.

  • Yeah I read the story, hence the comment in agreement with it, had to have been planned.

  • Ride a steel frame - much safer, they can always detect your presence with their magnetrons...

  • I had a pleasant oh shit moment on sunday, I have never had anything like this happen to be before.... A black cab driver on bishopsgate decided that whilst approaching a red light he just had to overtake me and force me towards stationary traffic on my left, so I tried to hold my road position and he forced his way past, brushing my bag with his wing mirror and catching my rotating cranks with his hubcap causing my back end to skip about on the road, I did the whole hands in the air what the hell are you doing gesture, and got a wanker signal back. So being absolutely furious that this guy had nearly taken me out for no apparent reason other than the fact he was just a prick, I slowed down, got my keys out my pocket, and dragged them all the way down the left side of his vehicle, followed by the one fingered salute as I went on my merry way :)

  • fuck me, that video is mad. She really did zip out the way just in time. v. fucking lucky.

  • Whoa Duncan your avatar is scary looking!

  • Indeed I am at greater risk, but I don't think I should just accept that this retard didn't signal or look in his mirrors and isn't aware of surroundings, so there is nothing I can do!

accept it, avoid it, and ride.

  • HTFU accept it, avoid it, and ride......This is London my friend.

    +1 ;)

  • What did happen to the car? it was properly smasded up already before it hit the railing!

  • it had hit 14 pedestrians

  • Just saw the video, I only just seen the longer one, whoop!

I wish it had been merely an 'Oh shit!' moment for the four people who have so far been confirmed killed and the others who were seriously injured. Early suggestions are that this was a murderous attack using a car as a weapon. Absolutely awful. The cyclist could easily have been the fifth.

The first person by the crashed car was a policeman on a bike.

  • CrazyJames: A WINNER IS YOU :-)

  • lol

  • I don't know whether that is a compliment or an insult on here haha.

  • It was intended sincerely. Black cabs are some way below rats and on a par with amoebic dysentery in my personal pantheon of favourite classes of organism.
