I used Velox/Jantex tape for about a year on my track bike, didn't have any problems. Use glue on my commuter as it's easier to swop tubs with glue rather than tape.
Some tubs are an absolute mare to get on, trying to get a set of Conti Sprinters needed thumbs of steel despite having stretched them for a day or so. Vittorias tend to be a bit easier.
