Here's a little project that I hope to get cracking on in a month or so, and finish during the summer:
Turn this:
into this, but with coaster hub brake only:
with the fenders, chain casing, rear (and maybe front) rack, and rear wheel housing of this:
all powdercoated in seafoam green:
So the first thing I need to do is decide on a wheelset. The rear hub will probably be a Velosteel coaster hub from Bikefix, but I don't know about the front hub or rims yet. Any suggestions? I am after an understated look, so maybe something like a Mavic Open Pro in silver? I will want to run 25 or 28 tyres.
Second question is whether I would even be able to find the full chain casing for sale. My gut feeling is that these are made for specific bikes, so I probably won't be able to find anything designed as an aftermarket add-on. It has to be able to stand up to being powdercoated. Anyone have any experience with these?
