Fork rethreading etc

  • anyone know how much it would cost to get a fork rethreaded from italian to english? would it be cheaper/easier to replace headset? looking for campag italian thread headset if so.

    help appreciated as always.

  • this should be in mechanics section, how do i move it VB?

  • You would have to get the steerer replaced I think.
Be cheaper to get a diff headset I reckon.

  • oh that's not what i wanted to hear but thanks jol.

  • Hmmm, might be going mad, but just googled this and I remember something about Headset threads being the same?

"Italian and English threads are interchangeable. French threaded forks require their own headset."

Might be just BB's here Eng and It are different.

  • aha i thought there was something like that...great link. cheers

  • way cheaper to get new headset.

  • English and Italian headsets have the same thread form, but at a different pitch.

Can remember exactly, but they are both something like 1", 24 tpi, but English is 50 degree, and Italian is 60 degree.

Either way, they are close enough to switch, but are not really interchangeable. i.e Change from one to the other once is fine, but don't switch back an forth between the two on a weekly basis.

  • Gizmond is accurate.

If you have a choice between the two headsets choose the correct one.

    But the are interchangeable.

No need to tamper with the fork.
