looks tasty

by the look of it, i'd hazard a guess and say the stem ans seatpost will be seized in the frame.
-
• #4
nah, i beat the living daylights out of them both with a hammer earlier, there's nothing that cant be fixed with a hammer and screwdriver ;-)

I'd say the seatpost is a funny size, and the frame is for 27" wheels, I'd also say it was ridden by a man, in his forties, with long hair, a beard and a pronounced stoop.
-
• #6
i would also add that he probably prefered comfortable shoes and only ever cycled when it was raining
-

is the 27" wheels point an issue? i stuck my 700c's in there and it seemed fine, will there be toe overlap?
as for the seatpost i'm sure thats easily fixable.

pretty, pretty, pretty good, pretty good

My old man used to have one of those, don't often see them. Those wrap around seat stays look exactly the same as on my Carlton, also made in Worksop, I think they were made by the same people. I like it.
getting a new(er) BB to fit might be a bit of a bitch if your getting rid of the cottered cranks? . . .
-
• #10
well its in the local bike recycling workshop so i'll just go back down tomorrow, take it all apart and try fitting all my current bits on it.
it's possibly too small, i'm riding a 21" at the mo which feels too long for me, this one is 19 1/2" (do you get half sizes or have i measured it wrong?)

i had a similar frame as my first fixed, although its single speed in this pic
did me proud till i could afford a better frame. cottered cranks and old bb were fine, although its getting replaced with shimano one. mines standard british threading so unless yours is markedly older i'd hazard a guess it would be too....
now bare steel frame after i nitromors it, gonna be a beater/polo bike.
go for it definitely

Got a nice shiny one of these that I am building up at the moment. Yep - go for it.

cheers dudes, i'll pick it up tomorrow provided he goes for the "gimme the frame for free and one day in the future when i have a few quid i'll give you some money" line :-p

was worksop once the world centre of bike manufacturing or did raleigh just make frames for pretty much everybody from their worksop factory ?
-
• #16
i've got one of these in the shed (in pretty good condition though i've ground off some braze-ons). stripped it down and all that, got the headset (though some bearings had crumbled) and stuff, bb is a bit rough.
if anyone wants one drop me a line. £50. -

i started working on this frame today, the cranks were well and truly stuck on there so had to angle grind them off, then weld one of the crank arms to the bottom bracket to get it out, hardcore stuff :-p

HI Deadjoe and Hugh16
I have just got myself a totally original sun worksop (read needs lots of work) and am looking to do it into a single speeder - any hints/ lessons learnt greatly appreciated.A couple of quickies
Can you fit 700 - any issues to watch out for
did you have any trouble with finding a new BB / seat post or are these standard sizesCheers

- 700's fitted fine on mine, no problems there.
- my seatpost is 25.4 (bmx standard)
- the bottom bracket thread was a bit dicky so i just used a long arm pliers to grind the cups in, they wont be coming back out :-p
I actually re-painted mine today, its hanging up to dry this very second...
how about some pix of yours?

just like the birthday party song :-)
here's me with the man himself 10 years ago (man i am old!)
I found a Sun Worksop frame today, are they ok? I don't need anything special, I'm using an Apollo Challenger frame at the mo which sucks ass!
