  • For random acts of kindness Texas is your man.

Today I was doing my commute home along hipster highway when my chain came off and my rear wheel sort of locked while in the middle of traffic -scaring the shit out of me. (At least I might have looked marginally cool as I involuntarily skidded sideways for a meter or two hitting the kerb.) Anyhow, the chain was now lodged firmly between the sprocket and the hub and sort of stuffed beneath where the spokes come out. I tried for ten minutes plus to yank it out again but gave up thinking I'd have to remove the lockring and sprocket to get it loose.

After just a minute or two walking down the Clerkenwell Road carrying my bike some dude on a Dolan bike stops to help me. He gets some tools out and works out that instead of my aggressive pulling you could kind of tease out the chain by moving the narrower links across the spokes or whatever it was we ended up doing. He then gave my bike a quick check and reassured me that chainwheel etc was OK. It was just my slack chain causing it. (Idiot me)

Anyhow, turns out he's on this forum under the nick Texas, so again cheers mate, I'm extremely grateful!!
