Just joined up looking for a bike. I know close to nothing about fixies and vintage stuff, but I ride my flatmate's to and from work and they are baller. I am in the market for one that can take a beating, I had some old crosswave mountain bike, black and stripped of all non-essential parts, but it got stolen a week ago so now i am forced to bus it... this forum rocks by the way, and anyone willing to take time to educate a newbie let me know, cheers

Welcome, lemondragonfly. Sorry to hear that your bike got nicked. Concerning advice, pretty much all you need to know to get started will already have been discussed somewhere, so use the search function extensively to start with. That should answer the vast majority of your questions! You can start with the 'definitive list of lists' thread, too. There's lots of information and links to information there. Enjoy.

- Welcome to the Forum - get to your nearest Drinks asap and meet up with cool new people.
- You have to prove your 'fantastic' to all the other Matt's at some point - you can decide how.
- And where abouts on TCR do you ride to? I am just off it on Cavendish/Fitzroy Street.

Lurked for quite a while, bought an old Hercules, signed up when I was quite drunk, decided two weeks later that I should probably post something.
Done and done.

Hi! Been living in London 5 years, 4.5 of which i spent walking everywhere wishing I had a bike. Then I decided to get my act together, got a load of second hand parts including a perfectly good pug frame rescued from a tip and a raleigh frame I got in a blind auction for university furniture for £10.05. Decided to go with the raleigh frame, went SS (because I couldn't be bothered fitting deraileurs back on) and haven't looked back since! I love cycling london, even my commute from whitechapel to Kings X is now a pleasure! (mostly).

Hello people!
Just wanted to say that I enjoy reading stuff on this forum and decided (as you can see) to join.
Gonna try to get down to my local Drinks (south-east) at some point soon.
Well it's a beautiful day and I'm not working so it's time to head outside for some cycling, sunshine and beer.
See you around!!! -

New Members, read this and put your name down in the thread if your interested, link below..
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread15291-11.htmlThings we do well on this forum, organise and go on a regular basis to Drinks, wherever they may be, and Ride.
So in the spirit of these two elements, comes the all new,
New Members Compass Beer Rides. It has been noted that meeting up with a big group of forumengers that you don't know in a pub can be slightly intimidating. So to make it less so, this idea has been put forward to combine drinks and rides.
Think of it as a Forum Fresher's week, without the hazing, so that the previous months new members get a chance to meet up with, and ride with fellow forumengers. Talk bikes, find out where drinks are, and get a good ride in at the same time
You can come out to the beers closest to you, or trek out to a beers on the otherside of town, safe in the knowledge that you'll be with people who a) know where they are going, and that b) someone will be heading back in your general direction so you can ride home in the company of another forumenger. So For One Week, every couple of months, there will be rides from Trafalgar Sq, to the Beers,
**Monday - Souths @ The Coach and Horses
Tuesday - Norths @ The Flask or
Tuesday - South Easts @ The Kings Arms or
Tuesday - Trixie Dix @ **White's Row Car Park Roof. White's Row, Off Commercial Street
** Wednesday - Easts @ The Royal Inn on the Park
Thursday - Wests @ The Crabtree or The Ship (season dependent)
Sunday - Polo @ Downham Rd Polo Courts.**A couple of regulars from each beers will be at Trafalgar Sq from approx 6.30 for a prompt 7pm departure, (1pm for a 1.30pm departure on Sunday) And will take any new member who so wishes for a ride which will arrive at beers/polo.
The Next Compass Beer Rides will be
May 11-17** 2009**. -

Hi I'm new on here otherwise I would of posted this in the classified section. I am selling a brand new 56cm surly steamroller frame, fork, ritchey headset and unbranded bars. I got the whole bike through the cycle to work scheme with the intention of selling the frame and forks to fund the purchase of a bob jackson frameset or something similar. I would consider a trade for a smaller 52cm, good condition english bb chromo frame. I have a £250 buy it now on it on ebay, although I am open to offers.

Hi, just signed up.
I've been riding my mountain bike more and more on the road and fancied a SS road bike, so stuck it in one gear a few months back and been riding it like that since.
Took the plunge earlier this week and ordered a Genesis Flyer.. I now feel a bit like a kid the week before Christmas...

Is that a Kaito track on the first vid?
I'm still a nursery kid so can't start a thread but wanted to give folks a heads up on Oxford bike events coming up for all those who fancy an escape from the big city.
We've just posted the video from our last alleycat:

Hello Guys, New to the forums and looking to build a bike on the cheap for summer!

Hi all, the forums have me falling off my chair, enjoying the wit and knowledge.
I have had a 531 Raleigh track bike for 25 years that has seen many good miles on the road and a few (very few)kilos on the track but my new love is a Dahon folder that I did a little work on to make into a 16 inch wheeled fixie. When (if) I get out of the nursery I may screw up the courage to post an image?
I am coming to London in time for the beer ride in May looking forward to mixing it up with all.
Same old faces eh ? :D
