Agreed, Oxford street is only acceptable late at night when the traffic is manageable. It is the slowest road to cycle along that I have ever found, particularly heading East from marble Arch to Oxford Circus. Hell.
What do you like about it Harry?

Love: Isledon Road (between Finsbury Park Station + Argos@Holloway Road)
about 500m of fresh tarmac and f1 like bends.
Hate: anything cobbly -

The tunnel on lower thames street. Got bumped by a lorry down there. I can only Imagine the limehouse link tunnel is even worse. Wouldn't dare.

can't stand Wigmore, the surface is a shocker near the police station. But oxford st is worse.
+1 on Holland Park and hitting all the green lights - well nice

Twice in two days, fantastic!
.I got thru all those lights this morning. Swift.
+1 to Oxford street being shit.
Wigmore Street FTW but dodgy road surfacing. -

Pinball.
Its the most exciting road in London. 20+mph through gaps of about 14" and the constant threat of ped, cops, traffic lights and U-turning cabs. Its well fun :). The insults make it even better. A race down it makes it EVEN better.
:)
Leadenhall on the other hand. Shit surface. And I more or less have to go down it multiple times a day. borough high st must have the worst surface though, but I hardly use it.

hate - water lane in stratford! might as well be cycling in bagdhad!

Hate - Vauxhall Cross, the road east from Vauxhall Cross, i.e. Camberwell New Rd. Bumpy as hell, constant works, bus garage just before camberwell green, bumpy as hell afterwards, just generally terrible. Which is a shame as that's basically my commute. The lorries on the A2 aren't much fun either.
Love - anything late at night.

Hate - Pentonville Road from kings cross to Angel. Crappy surface, long hill, idiot drivers/buses and, lights just before the crest and if you get stuck at the lights at the bottom you have to do the whole hill with no momentum.
also HATE regent street/portland place with a passion, so many pointless light and pedestrian lights you can't jump because of police (especially the lights next to the chinese embassy)
Love - Regents park - I know everyone loves it but...
Strangely I love riding gray's in road to old street in the afternoon if there's not too much traffic about.

^^ Grays Inn Road runs North/South, do you mean Clerkenwell Road?
Going round the side og HIghbury Fields, nice smooth road and not many cars, same so short -

Hate: tooting, the city or anywhere where peds step out without looking. And streatham (although i've not been thought there properly for a while... but seen it recently and didn't look like anything had changed) basically the roads are exactly the right width for cars with not quite enough room for cyclists to get past...
Love: any road that's got a bus lane in... perfect for going past loads of stationary traffic! :-)
heh thats what I do coming in, got it off to a fine art now, just going back south is a bit of a bitch, actually thinking about it I always get hit by the next set of lights after that. Where the traffic coming from Lambeth North direction comes round.
I love those sets of lights, heading north, getting the speed right between oval and the next set of ligths to have a bit of momentum and then caning it to the next set of light which change just before you get to them unless you really sprint...

14" gaps? where do you find them on Oxford street. The gaps I usually see are closer to 4".

Yes! haha.. I hate kilburn high road.. especially if you're heading up towards shoot up hill, when traffics bad it's impossible to carry any speed up there

Hate: Oxford Street, Strand, Holborn, Mile End Rd, Essex Road, Borough High St.

Rotherhithe Tunnel must be the worst tunnel ever. Everything goes bless from the start, till you hit 1/3 - fumes are unbearable. Done it once - never again.
It's great if you like travelling at 5mph, inhaling bus fumes, constantly dodging tourists stepping out looking the wrong. If you have to go near that shithole, wigmore is better. I prefer the faster moving traffic on Euston Rd.
