as others have said.. if you're not going to do longer rides you won't appreciate gears/coasting..
I bought a geared bike a few months ago, it felt weird and I didn't like it when I just went up/down the road to see how it was.. Then a week later I went on a 70ish mile ride with Pajamas and Dropout into Essex and absolutely loved it
