  • a lot of the forum is made up of people with no 'cool' factor whatsoever, no matter what bike they're riding, and plenty of those people were already riding fixed when the forum started. The fact that young 'cool' people have been noticed riding fixed gear over the last couple of years is only because journalists would like to think they know where it's at and look to young, cool people to see what they're doing. They haven't noticed that loads of people have started riding fixed gear over the last few years anyway. It's true that it's snowballed recently and the bikes have become showier.. and so the fixed gear "fad" as it has been identified by journalists is about the aesthetics and being into the aesthetics, rather than the transmission, which in fact is an integral part of its appeal. When the cool bikes have become laughable (and a lot of people already think aerospokes and even lo-pros have had their day, for example) loads of people will still never go back to a freewheel, whether they're cool or not.

Not sure why the journalist is giving so much of a shit. Bet he's on here too..
