  • @ sqvrt - I have a 52cm and i'm 5'8'' with stubby legs. Standover height is your biggest worry coming from compact road geo. If you're around the south (clapham or surrounding) your welcome to try mine for size?

cheers for the offer alasdair but unfortunately I'm nowhere near london, let alone clapham. Sounds like a 52cm will do the job for me though - just need to find one for less than £400...

  • I too am looking at an OTP bike via ride2work.
How do the SE bikes compare to the Fuji?
I prefer riding lighter bikes, but don't know much when it comes to frames.
    Cheers

  • Also, to give a different perspective on the 'twitchy' fuji, I'm not particularly super fit or flexible, or even that good a rider. But after a short time on the fuji (and a switch to straight bars, front brake, and a charge seat) I haven't had any problems at all. After a year I still love it.

The 'twitchy' aspect seemed to vanish after adding the straight bar, but it still felt so much more direct and fun than the plug which I also tried (albeit in stock form).

This is not to take away from the plug which looks great and felt very safe and solid - a great all weather bike. But the fuji has a sort of explosiveness that is hugely addictive. It looks fast just sitting there leaning up against the wall - as if it is urging you to take it out and thrash it - even if all you needed to do was go out and buy a pint of milk.

    +1

Straight bar, new seat and you have yourself an awesome bike. I love my fuji!

pretty sure the SE is the same frame as the fuji but with an american BB (which is shit for compatability) so get th fuji imo.

  • Just took delivery of my Fuji Track 54 and i'm not sure if it's too big? The thing looks big but i can stand over the frame with 2 flat feet?

    Any advice would be good....

  • The Fuji is half the price of a Bianchi, and the frame is as good (if not better).

BBs and hubs will go on all these bikes if they're ridden many miles, so your best going with the best frame for the money.

The Fuji just needs a brake, bigger cog, probably a new saddle, and off you go. I ride a 2007 every day.

    Ride it?

  • Also the Bianchi now have a relaxed geometry as far as I can tell, so the Fuji is more track-specific.

  • if you can find it for <£400 on a ride2work scheme then i will.

yep - agreed. in fact if you can find that for 600 let me know!

  • Wotcha. Similar post...

New to this - so cant post from scratch..
Been monitoring this forum for a while, - and will bore y'all with a question that keeps coming up..

Bike to work scheme question - Just got into the track (Herne Hill) And would like a bike I can commute on, but also (potentially) use on the track.. Ridden a 56 Fuji and loved it..

I'd like to build from scratch, but cant ignore the 50% off the cycle scheme gets you + you pay it off over 12 months.. Bonus.

I have to use Evans... Was thinking

    Fuji Track
    Brooks Swallow
    Shimano 105
    Cane Creek Lever
    Better tyres (Armadillos??)
    18t cassette to commute..

Plus I like the look of some soma major taylor bars with black tape.. but need to shop elsewhere..

Any thoughts? - will end up costing about 280 all in (cash over 12 months..). Not sure I can get a better deal from scratch, and I can upgrade from there.... (what else should I consider)

Was originally going for a genesis flyer - but cant stomach this years green....

Appreciate your views, and looking forward to associated sledging..

  • Good frame and good upgrades IMO (can't comment on Armadillos though).

If your buying it for all weather riding remember you don't have room for a mudguards on the rear. I use a MTB crud-catcher thing for my short commute, but SKS Race-Blade type things would work too.
