  • You're right but if it is being shown in a cinema and the proceeds are going to charity, shirley that's a loop-hole.

Not sure about this, but PRS is only a license, surely you should be paying the distributor a fee for showing the film too, or at least striking a deal with them if it's a charity night......I doubt a regular cinema would let you show films you don't have the right to show.....but other types of venue might.

Think it says on your dvd box that they're not for public display, but sure many screenings do happen, ask yourself who's gonna know? will distributor / PRS find out?...if yes approach both.

  • winston: do you have any spare copies of Triplets? I pay goodcashdorrasterling

  • I also thought pedal was a really great film to watch.

  • just looked at the trailer for beijing bicycle and it looks like a lovely film. we need to choose two films soonish so as to get the ball rolling. i have put the titles together with the original post and placed stars beside those which we have access to via members.
red light go looks insane just watched the trailer for that.

  • Wow just watched the same trailer, MENTAL!

My vote: red light go and Joe kid on a stingray.

  • I have red light go on dvd too...my mate superkid is in it for a few secs......

also: the cyclist (Iranian) a bit dull. and loads on VHS, will have to dig them out.

  • Coppi - just to tidy up the top post, you've now got Belleville Rendevous as well as Les Triplettes de Belleville listed..

Must say this is shaping up to be a brilliant night...really looking forward to it.

    oops. thanks for that.
we need to look down that list and as difficult as it seems pick two crackers. i know which two i woud like but its a group thing so ...... majority rule etc.
the date that is being mentioned by the owner is may 21st 2009. i am just trying to get from him a possible start time but that might be dependent on what film or films are being shown.
the night will be opened up to the public as well so the bill having a broad appeal might enable something like this happening again. and looking at the list of films it would be a shame for it not to happen again.

  • poll?

  • Did you know Jimmy Saville was an extra in that film. Strangely, it's very highly regarded in the French cinema. It has a list of British stars as long as your arm.

  • Actually, I can see that the French might quite like it . Its one of the few post war films that show the british working class as normal people. There are no cilpped , cut glass accents dominating the dialogue; that's some thing Powell and Pressburger were increasingly and annoyingly guilty of in later films . Brief Encounter it is not.

For those of you who have not seen it , the film is reminiscent of Cyclist Special documentary, you know the one about the train trip to Rugby , and captures British Cycling club life at its peak in the late forties and early fifties. It was downhill all the way until you all started riding fixed

  • Surely Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure would be the obvious choice? 'Man' wins Tour de France on a single speed with panniers, has bike stolen, then recovers it in the final reel.
I cry every time I see it.

  • I would love to be involved in this. I have nothing to contribute other than cashdorra (of which I have little anyway)!

  • Triplettes De Belleville is VERY good. I would give Quicksilver a miss. Breaking Away is better.

I've got a few DVDs here. I can't remember which - Pedal, Red Light Go, Overcoming are some of them. Most of mine are in Oz though :(

    He speaks the truth.

    Sound good too.

  • final selections are being made right now, cheers all

  • I have quicksilver (VHS)....it is a shit movie, apart from the apparently "hilarious" trick scene.....actual skill level is pretty high in this scene....it's pretty clear they're circus cyclists on their own bikes acting as couriers.....

also breaking away on dvd(region 1), hell on wheels, overcoming, on divx, plus others on VHS.

could i lend your copy of quicksilver by any chance? i have a vast collection of videos if you wanna do a trade.. haha.

  • still haven't seen macaframa! i need to see it in hd..
