St George can be indentified with the Hindu deity Indra, who, in the vedic creation-myth, slays a sort of cosmic dragon, and from it's stomach pour the waters of life, thus creating the world.

Strange how Georgia in the former USSR has a similar flag to us.

and a similar name to said saint, eh?
