Joe kid on a stingray, fantastic film about the birth and progression of bmx leading up to the present day, with loads of interviews footage etc from the olden days, awesome.

+1 Joe Kid on a Stingray.
I've got Stars & Watercarriers on VHS if you're interested.
Another classic is 'Hell on Wheels', a german documentary about the 2003 Tour de France. Got it on DVD and its awesome.

YouTube - Quicksilver bike dancing
YouTube - Quicksilver Movie Trailer with Kevin Bacon
already suggested it, do you own a copy??
-
• #36
Yep, I know you suggested it, youTube'd it and thought it was pretty funny.
Sadly I don't have a copy.

great idea G, really looking forward to it.
However, can I make a request that Belleville is not shown as part of the bill?
It's true, it's a great film - it's just that plenty of people must have already seen it and there are so many more unusual bike films out there that are documentaries.. maybe it would be better to watch one of those?
saying that it is a masterpiece..I suppose it's all about demand..

http://www.bfi.org.uk/nftva/access/bookings/
You can sign up, access and hire prints from BFi - huge collection.
Many moons ago we formed a college film club and did just that.
I'd get some clued up flyer type event organisers folks in on it too as they can be expensive to rent so you really have to get your punters in, however it's looks so beautiful and playing projectionist is very cool.
Only once did a melting leader leave me in fear of my deposit, though it looked pretty on screen.
It was not much more hassle than renting a dvd really, they used to arrive by post or courier, you just had to look after the reels and make sure of prompt return undamaged etc...
Go for it, it's a great idea. I hope it still function the same way and is of help.DS

Try a " Boy , a Girl, and a Bicycle "
Its an ealing film about 50s cycling clubs in Yorkshire . Diana Dors plays the bad girl who tempts the cyclist from the straight and narrow and Honour Blackman is the good girl
Jimmy Saville is an extra in the road race scene; given the period this must have been inspired by the League

I have quicksilver (VHS)....it is a shit movie, apart from the apparently "hilarious" trick scene.....actual skill level is pretty high in this scene....it's pretty clear they're circus cyclists on their own bikes acting as couriers.....
also breaking away on dvd(region 1), hell on wheels, overcoming, on divx, plus others on VHS.

really cool idea G,
i think you should get hold of macaframa for all of us that missed it and cant get a copy yet... -

Triplettes De Belleville is VERY good. I would give Quicksilver a miss. Breaking Away is better.
I've got a few DVDs here. I can't remember which - Pedal, Red Light Go, Overcoming are some of them. Most of mine are in Oz though :(

Fast Friday, Macaframa, Mash et al too mainstream?
-

isn't there some kind of PRS thing for films? i'e you can't do unauthorised public showings if you charge an entry fee?
-
• #47
+1 to belleville rendevous, a very sweet and funny film

So, it's done in super seeclet. No names, everyone wears masks, bumming optional.

You're right but if it is being shown in a cinema and the proceeds are going to charity, shirley that's a loop-hole.

I was asked by the distributors of Belleville Rendezvous to help market the film, managed to get all the bike couriers in the company I was at to wear specially designed tee shirts for two weeks, plus organised a screening / preview....
still got a couple of the tees....very rare, only 100 made ....at hugely inflated prices!
haha isn't it
it isn't exactly a cinematic masterpiece but its really great fun and i recommend it for this film fest.
despite what you think bacon can handle a track bike surprisingly well!
