  • Who has done it?

I am struggling with some stiffnees is I try and ride on the drop downs and want to nip this in the bud.

What I am concerned about is that, if I were to get my bike stolen, or decide to sell it, the money spent is effectively lost. Is there anyway to take away measurements or some other transferable knowledge from the session so that I won't necessarily have to pay again sometime in the future?

  • Clive, James!

  • consider the specialized bg fit

available at some dealers, concept store london (ruislip) in particular

tis good, i had one done :)

    xxx

  • I've done it a couple of times.

They send you a spreadsheet of your measurements, you keep the numbers and can setup your bike yourself to avoid even having them do it.

It's phenomenal btw, totally worth it.

  • how come you went back if you had the measurements?

  • It had been 2 years, I was getting another custom bike made, and I was curious as to whether I had changed much as a result of the fitting and whether that would therefore create a slightly different set of numbers that I should give to the framebuilder. Turns out the fit was still pretty much perfect, not even the crank length changed... about 1/2 cm difference on the bar height, but that was it. It's a testament to the process that the numbers were so spot on after a few years.

  • I've done it and would recommend it to anyone who can afford it. Not cheap but it ensures comfortable riding and helps avoid injury. The £200 or so it costs is a worthwhile investment when compared to the cost of many components. Indeed it is better to have three bikes that fit than four that do not.

  • +1 to what V said

search for cyclefit on the forum

as you age and cylce more your body will change possibly getting fitter, more flexible and stronger. because of this your position may change. so after a while it can be worth being assessed again.

  • I have just recently got a fitting done here

    http://bespokecycling.com/

It was brilliant totally changed my position and I am now so much more comfortable on the bike and makes long rides a joy. For me it was definately worth it and I have recomended them to a few other people who have been since and would also recomend it.

  • When you guys say £200 - either the price is reduced or you did the 'performance cyclefit'.

    Which was it?

    HE cyclefit

Road or Mountain Bike Your CycleFit Technician will design your optimum biomechanical interface with the bike, working with you to establish correct posture, pedalling technique and most importantly the foot/shoe/pedal interface.

At CycleFit we would always encourage clients to have their 'road' position assessed initially as this is where they will spend the majority of their riding time. More specific fits (triathlon, track, time trial) can be assessed once the basic road position has been designed. This will not neccessarily apply to mountain bike riders.

    NEW
        THE PERFORMANCE cyclefit
Time Trial & Triathlon Our new enhanced fitting service provides you and your Cyclefit technician with more information to finely tune posture, pedalling dynamics and power output. Using the Computrainer and Sizecycle your Cyclefit Technician will record power output in watts, your heart rate, spinscan and cadence. Silicon Coach video analysis will be further used to tune your on-the-bike bio-mechanics at ‘race pace’ to ensure that you are pedalling at your optimum and your upper body is stable and comfortable.

The Performance Cyclefit is for riders who want to perform at their best, we want you to maximise aerodynamics, power output and comfort in your chosen event.

    £200.00 (3 hours)

  • often people get things like the custom footbeds so there are extra costs over the £155.

the performance fit is for people doing time trials and triathlon

  • i got the custom footbed fitted there about over a year ago, and, although expensive, completely stopped the pain in my ankles and my sidis fit like a glove
Totally reccomend this service too, and the guys there are really helpful

  • +1 to everything thats been said already, you get all the measurements and info that's taken during the session so you can build another bike/get one built that fits you perfectly.
I got mine done by Roger at mosquito cycles up in islington, they are slightly cheaper than cyclefit in covent garden about £120 rather than £150

but you can also try these guys if money is an obstacle, they are doing bike fittings for £85 based out in ealing,

thread below with some praise for them as well as link to website

  • I got a fitting there as a gift. Not much changed fit-wise (but it'd only taken 5-10 years of my time to dial my DIY fit in!). The one thing they can do that normal people tend not to is cleat shimming if you have ankle roll - I do - a lot. Plus the custom footbeds for foot comfort on long rides and improved pedaling efficiency. I'd need to see figures to back up the eficiency claims but the increased comfort is a winner.

  • I booked a fitting for May and can't wait for it!...
I'll be getting my motherfukin Tron on for when they use the lazers n shit

  • Just found out that, booking now, first slot is July 2nd!!!!

  • that's not too bad, in the meantime, if you can, get someone who knows about bike fitting to asses your position in case of any glaring errors.

  • I think Im going to do this... Thinking about a geared road bike and I reckon the money spent is def worthwhile to make sure its perfect. Yep, Im gonna ring today. Not cheap though, is it???

  • £150-200

  • Try http://bespokecycling.com/ they will get you in earlier. They also use some fancy camera thing so your getting dynamic measurements of you when your cycling rather than when your just sitting on the bike. I was very impressed with my fitting its made a real difference.

  • FWIW I had a Cyclefit a few weeks ago and found it very beneficial and would recommend it to anyone who intends spending a lot of time on two wheels.

  • Guys, did they set your bikes up afterwards? On their website it implies that this is an additional charge.

  • To an extent they do,I think there are only a limited number of things you can alter without considering new parts. Sorted me out with wedges for my sidis and cleat posisition, and they made a few simple adjustments to the saddle, and I now have a list of measurements to take into consideration when I replace the stem and bars but thats only on my Plug. That and some advice about riding posture all contribute to a more enjoyable and comfortable ride.

Like you mentioned, I also intend getting a road bike in the next few months and I've no doubt that the information I know have will help me make a much more informed choice about which to go for. I'm confident that if you go for one of their custom bikes it'll be a delight to ride, I think Dancing James has one of their bikes.

This mob is £25 more... The thingo is called "Retul" according to their site.

  • I've been fitted by Cyclefit and have had custom footbeds made; wonderful process including video and power analysis. It's interesting seeing the changes that position make to your power output at a given heart rate though obviously it doesn't need to be this complicated.

I'd thoroughly recommend them, plenty of lovely frames and components to see too. They're capable of doing custom Colnagos as well.
