Ed, the Abus Granit X 54 is one of the best locks ever. Abus do use specially hardened steel, but under equal testing, it doesn't live with 18mm locks. Its only a 13mm thick lock. Still excellent, but the normal base for this list is 16mm, and 18mm locks easily outlast the 13mm Granit X 54, under tests.
