Do you have a favourite/nightmare place to ride in London?

  • Hate: Covent Garden. Having lived in the West End for a bit, I normally avoid it like the plague even as a pedestrian. As a cyclist it's even more ghastly thanks to pointless one-way systems, idiot peds and their attendant black cabs.
Love: Regents Park, Hyde Park, Victoria Park et al. People in London just don't realise how fortunate they are to have these, compared to the tiny municipal "recs" typical of other towns.
Hate: The Old Street/Gt Eastern Street complex. Seemingly designed for the purpose of getting cyclists hurt. The wider sections of pavement in GES even prevent safe filtering past slow traffic and guarantee yet more bonehead manoeuvres from the motor traffic.

  • Love getting across from Queen Mothers Gate across four lanes of traffic then across the other side towards Piccadilly.

Hate Oxford Street with a passion.

  • pre 5am putney to hackney.
    recommended.
or in fact anywhere, in mid summer. good fun.

+1. late night summer riding is beautiful.

  • I love that song! Gret clip too......

My fave ride is through Hyde park from Kensington High Street, past Royal Albert Hall on inside road on nice day.

On the other hand Kensington High Street sux in peak hour, avoid at all cost!!

  • Love:
    Hate:
    – Queensbridge Road, long and boring.
    – Columbia Road, well just the cobbles at the end.

    WHAT??
    columbia road = paris roubiax
queensbridge road = the alps (rise over the canal) followed by time trail!

two best parts of riding in london!

  • Love - Any piece of road where you effortlessly pass cars stuck in traffic and cycling through the parks or by the river.
Hate -Bayswater Road, or any 4 lane road with no shoulder that people think is a race track.

  • I hate no routes in particular? 32c tyres mean potholes don't even register these days ;)

Love more riding "spots" than routes, such as:
St pauls for all the stair sets
City of London School Brick bank/wallride
Stone circle curved bank/wallride thing by southbank
grass humps in moorgate, loads of fun boosting a bit of air out of them
and last but not least the trixiedix car park roof, I can be found there most nights, on the way home from work...practicing ;)

  • Hate: Belly button lint that just can't be got at.

maybe, you should shed a few kgs!

  • love: every roundabout

    hate: every full pedestrians roads

  • Hate - Traffic light at Farringdon Road on Clerkenwell Road - You have little room on the left, traffic coming at you if you go right. When the light changes, you need to be in the middle try to rush up that little climb, hoping the cars behind stay chill in first gear until you reach Turnmills where the road is wider.

Love - Cassland Road at night toward Hackney Wick - I know I am 2 mins away from home, and the road is slightly downhill, you can achieve really good speed if wind is on your side.

  • I love cycling in London, favourites include the route from the crabtree pub to kew gardens, along the thames. did it with elguapo last night. good road surface, quiet and fast rolling with little traffic.

another bit I like is going down holland park avenue. if timed right from notting hill you can just about make every light on green.

  • +1 like city of london/square mile at weekends

+1 hate oxford st n parts of soho.

  • I probably put this before, but ICBA to go back and check.

Hate: Riding into the car park at work.
Love: Riding out of the car park at work.

  • another bit I like is going down holland park avenue. if timed right from notting hill you can just about make every light on green.

I got this this morning, for the first time ever. Blissful.

  • I love riding over chelsea bridge at night looking towards albert bridge
    hate riding round trafalgar sq

  • maybe, you should shed a few kgs!

I weigh 68kg. Maybe you should have your glasses checked.

  • Oxford St. sucks furry balls.
Euston Rd (esp the underpass) is nice unless there's a crash or something that blocks every fucking lane.
Uxbridge Rd is nice in between the shit holes Crackton, Shithall, Worst Ealing
I just think i have a thing for straight roads with no traffic.

  • I love riding over chelsea bridge at night looking towards albert bridge
    hate riding round trafalgar sq

coming down charing x then straight down onto whitehall on greens is a rush though....... cant wait to ride in london again friday.......bring it on, guess it better when you dont have to do it every day though and can choose routes you like.

  • Hate - going West
    Love - going East

    Prevailing winds rock!

  • they've re-surfaced the bumpy bit round by the Zoo.

Now that news has made my day.
After work TTing on brand new geared bike FTW!

  • anywhere with speed bumps on a hill. going up hill.

  • anywhere with speed bumps on a hill. going up hill.

    it's the vibrations, right?

  • Why do people hate oxford street.
    Its great.

  • that and the way i only ever find the hill with speed bumps on the days i'm absolutely knackered. and any momentum i may have built up disappears by the middle of the hill and it becomes a fucking grind getting up the bastard.

  • I got this this morning, for the first time ever. Blissful.

    Twice in two days, fantastic!

And I nailed the bunny hop over that trench at the bottom of the hill; whilst spinning. Hell yeah.
