were you racing when it blew?

I don't understand it. Do those spokes go all the way though the hub and to the other side of the rim?

at least it will be warrantied.
even good stuff breaks occasionally

Radial is for the gayz...

should be covered if you were riding on a track, but i would guess they'll have a clause in the guarantee of them nto to use them on the street.

it's hub-flange fail on a hub (and spokes) designed for radial lacing, and mavic should replace it.
don't turn this into a "radial sucks" thread because it's simply not true for front wheels.
radial patterns on the rear wheel warrant some discussion because there are other forces involved.
p.s. not that it applies, but i've been riding those wheels on the street now since about the same time. no problems.

I took it back and got a refund no questions asked (credit due to TheBikeFactory in chester).
It was ridden on the road, but then it is machined. Mavic do say track wheels are only garanteed for track, road wheels for road etc.
I am 6'2", 95kg, and never gone near a curb, just the usual pothole clad roads we have to put up with. It was true until it went.

no, the pic just looks like it does.
Normal spokes, but they don't bend at the end.
I assume it broke like this because the spokes are stronger than the hub, which is impressive in a way.

Technology is a modern quasi-religion
It's obviously some kind of major malfunction

I would argue that if there was another spoke crossing inside the spoke that broke, it wouldn't have failed.
And I plan to replace it with a radial spoked front. I'm not radist.

Not so much a radial lacing debate as a straight-pull spoke debate maybe?
-
• #13
Neither. Just bad luck.
The real story here is the fact you got your money back no questions asked, good customer service IMO.

I've been riding those wheels on the street on one of my bikes since september 08 and there still true/no problems. Cool that you got a refund!

3 cross FTW

If I rode a radial wheel it on the front or back....it would last a day......maybe two.

so longer than your new wheels.
Mavic ellipse, bought end of january, broken on saturday. 20 radial aero spokes, weighed about 1100g. The spoke seems to have sheered through the alu hub. Good luck to anyone riding one.
