There are also some short stretches of pave along there parallel to the Thames pathway should you fancy a touch of Paris-Roubaix.
If you are in Bermondsey you could go to Greenwich via Deptford and stop off and look in at Witcomb's one of London's famed frame-builders. At Greenwich you can take the foot tunnel under the Thames and come up on the other side via a lovely old wood-panelled lift.
Once there you can go on to Canary Wharf/Docklands or go via the Limehouse Basin along the canal to Islington and beyond if you go back on to the road for a bit.
If that is a bit too tame then you can come off at plenty of places along the route such as Victoria Park; alternatively you can take the Lea Valley branch up towards Chingford which is less busy and more rural - we took in some of this last week on the vintage jersey run.
