Sadly, it looks a lot to me as if he was sufficiently depressed that he simply didn't care about the risk of getting caught - at some level he may even have done it deliberately to force a permanent escape from pro cycling, which was clearly making him miserable. I'm not normally very sympathetic to dopers, but in this case it seems like a chance to sort himself out away from the spotlight would be for the best, poor sod.
