i once went into a specialist hifi shop in high wycombe when i was about 13 and they were so incredibly rude to me that i was left really upset by the experience. i distinctly remember the feeling of welling up as i walked away. i wanted to buy a stereo but only had about 200 pounds. they explained to me the importance of good speakers and told me that i should forget about the JVC consumer tat i had been eyeing up and save first for some 'entry-level' speakers and then for an amplifier (about three years worth of saving at the time). i had no idea of the prices of good quality sound gear nor the pomposity of nerdy niche shop owners. when i failed to fully appreciate the exquisite nuances and layered timbres of their shop system they told me to 'run along little boy'. so i did, to dixons, and had years of satisfied listening. i only wanted to listen to Operation Ivy.
I feel your pain. That is a very sad tale.
