one of the guys in there, (not one of the family i believe - he used to work in red kite many many moons ago) once called my original stumpjumper 'gay' because it had slicks and mudguards on. whilst not exactly respectful to the heritage, i think they were valid componentry choices and at the very most made the bike metrosexual and/or bi-curious.
