If you're going down York, you'll have to turn onto Wharfdale Road and come out on Caledonian. At which point, instead of doing the pavement up the start of Grays, you may as well go down Kings Cross and onto Farringdon. A quick turn at Cowcross, through Smithfields and down Little Britain will see you nicely onto St Martins and then Cheapside to finish.
Unless you can get through Snows Hill easily. I can't remember.

this is all a bit London Public Carriageways
Please may I borrow route expertise again?
Starting again from Brecknock Rd area, I want to get to King William Street. The obvious way is York Way -> Grays Inn -> Holburn -> Cheapside.
Is there a better / nicer / faster way?
