I wholeheartedly agree with you on this issue. However, in today's age of litigation, if legislation exists to control the "most utterly fuckwitted" anywhere else, then you have to continue that in everything, especially when it comes to situations in which they could kill themselves. In effect, we don't legislate to protect them, but in order to protect ourselves from being sued because of their own stupidity.

I see what you're getting at. Problem is that that way of looking at things rules out any improvement in the situation, ever, since whenever any protection is introduced in any arena everything else has to leap up to the same standard.

I for one would like to continue using a chef's knife in the kitchen without a health and safety assessment :-(
