I run 48 x 14 which is 90.1" - I ride it around London all the time, no problems, but I grew up on big gears for no particularly good reason, it is what I am used to, feels normal.
And no I can't skid with that ratio, the only way I can lock up the back wheel, is by putting the front brake on a little so the back end lifts.
