  • Let's not be patronising James, I study aerodynamics, and actually, as far as the spokes are concerned, it IS as simple as using symmetrical aerofoils. Where it gets complex is the interaction between the flow coming around the rim and meeting the spokes. I don't understand the dynamics, and judging by your comment:

nor do you. As far 'tests' backing it up go, if you mean the page hippy linked to, these are not exactly clear. And even so, if you'd looked properly, you'd see that the aerospoke's performance is far from 'shit'. So, let's agree to disagree for now.

Or you'll get some of this:

    :)

Well I wasn't intending to be patronising, but then again its always difficult to understand how something is being conveyed on the internet, if I was going to buy an aerodynamic wheel I would buy a HED3 most likely because it is as close as you can get to a disc wheel whilst still being able to retain control of the bike, I mean lets face it who here really buys "Le Spok" because its aerodynamic.
You're right I don't understand the complex dynamics that come into play at high speed with these "aero" wheels anymore than you do, but what I do know is what I see being used by track riders and what test results say, when it comes down to it Aerospokes are heavy, which means increased rotational mass, and not as efficient at reducing drag/improving aerodynamics as similarly priced or indeed slightly more expensive "aero wheels". A lot of people buy them purely for aesthetic reasons, I can understand wanting something that looks nice, but I can never understand sacrificing capability for looks.

  • Oh yeah and Ego's beat Angels everytime ;), I don't think anyone else will understand what the hell I am on about there, but you know harry.....you know :p

  • Aerospokes are good at maintaining velocity. They act like a flywheel. It's an effect that you actually notice on London roads, unlike the aerodynamic benefits of most other silly wheels. :)

You'll find it harder to accelerate, murder in a crosswind or headwind, but once you get up to speed, you'll find it easier to stay at speed. But it works the other way, you'll also notice the increased weight and momentum will make it harder to slow down as well!

    • 1 I definitely agree that they help you maintain a high speed - was very noticeable when i had mine

Personally i think any more than 250 quid for a used second hand spok is taking the piss, and more than 200 if it has had any serious use

  • surely any aerodynamic benefit of thse will instantly be negated by the bmx stem / risers / wayfairers / messenger bag found on the aerospoke hipsters whip lol
only joking but it is the same as someone who buys ti' axled and puts it on a heavy bike,
the gains will be minimum and negated by other parts or the person most likely
i want a 'spok not for my current bike, but eventually, but will be the first to admit i only want it for the looks....

  • an arrospok AND a H plus son on the rear!.....Hipster cunt ;)

  • hahahaha, yup through and through lol,
jamesey u got pics of ure wheels up yet, im guessin from what u said in the spotted thread u do, linky!?

  • it's not based on the aerodynamic properties of the wheel, it's based on the weight of the wheel. :)

Agreed. Let's never argue again :)

    Disagreed. Look:

Well I guess Joy shoot Angels so that makes them somewhat ok :p

  • Don't do it.

  • Well I guess Joy shoot Angels so that makes them somewhat ok :p

Indeed, I do believe Joy have beat however many ego-toting teams in the MS for the past 5 seasons =p

    Ahh, Ego-Angel rivalry, nothing better.

  • Nexus will be hot on their tails this year though, especially after their victory against Joy in Paris last year, I miss paintball, if only I had enough money to play these days, fuck... even though my old team were sponsored it was still expensive lol, anyway, in some ways i'm glad i'm out of it, there are a lot of arseholes involved in that sport/community and only a few good people.

  • Tell me about it. I fucking love paintball. It is all about the money though - I spent every penny I earned from 15-18 on it. I was quite fortunate aswell because we had a really good relationship with WDP, living in Birmingham, and trained at their site, NPF. Best thing ever was getting a brand new A1 for 350 quid when they first came out. Uni forced me to quit at my prime though :( Hopefully get to play with some of my old team during the summer again :)

  • go down dalston and nick one

  • 'Spoks are awesome... Love the way mine flickers when I'm rolling along to my local café for a latté and a pastry... It's a good 300 yard ride so I'm pretty thirsty/peckish by the time I get there...
Mine's been off the bike for a coupla weeks, got sick of wrestling DeathBike™ in the wind... Spokes not 'Spoks FTW(ind)!

  • wow! aeropsokes for a couple of latte. damn! and nothing better than a coffee after a bike ride. how a cuppa quench your thirst! hum.... amazing.

  • Does anyone seriously think people buy spocks because they may possibly be aero ?

It's cos they look like a bmx mag wheel, innit

  • i'm buying one because i'm a cunt, but i can't speak for anyone else

gonna put some trick nutz on mine buddy!!

in that case, what would the effect be when using bladed spoke?

  • any luck finding an arrospok? i am thinking of selling my trispoke, any interested parties hit me up with a PM.

  • What is it with people slagging off aerospokes!? Fair enough, people (or should I say "hipsters") buy them for their aesthetics, big deal, but bitching about them on a forum is far more pathetic and quite frankly, ridiculous.

but slagging them off is also good fun.

  • just missed arrospok fifty(8)dorrah
