the new software upgrade will solve the text input issues allowing the horizontal keyboard interface on other apps...
I think the waiting for new versions is something you could be doing with apple constantly... also if they follow suit as last time they will let you resign another 18 months and get the new one for free... so really nothing lost.
I have had version 1 and 2 and i think they are great for what they do....the only letdown i think is that the phone could be better for phonecalls...
