The best thing, though, is to Google a specific problem.
I'd recommend befriending someone from the forum as a bike buddy. There will be loads of people who are more than happy to give you a hand. I'm one of them.
Maybe go down to one of the drinks in your area and ask people's advice.
You didn't say if you want to convert a road bike or buy new track/fixed gear components. That would be to first thing to be thinking about.
