I say we get a couple of hundred of us down to the junction in the middle of the night, chain all the bikes together 5 deep in a circle and sit in the middle of it. That might attract some attention.
Parliament Square during rush hour would be better... I feel really angry about this, too many lives are being wasted...

Well up for this, chains must be used to hammer the point home, might get someone important listening.

I'm up for getting involved in some kind of action like that but I think what we need to press for is a big ad campain highlighting the dangers... I don't think the message will ever really get across otherwise

I used to work opposite - horrible junction. Too tight, too many lorries.
RIP.
Have added to this, I think I am missing one from this year.
I'm up for a ride - howabout congregating at entry points like Old Street / Shoreditch High Street junction and cycling en mass to Parliament Square blocking in all the traffic in Parliament Square?

Does London have any kind of annual ghost bike ride? Pretty sure NY does. I think something to bring attention to how many cyclists lose their lives on London's streets is needed. How about having a proportion of riders involved wearing only white- 'ghost riders'- representing the lost lives? I'll happily sign a petition but wonder if they ever really achieve anything...

Was going to suggest the same thing for this 'wall of bikes' protest: all wear white, maybe some fucked up ghost masks, absolute silence, messages on placards only.

Something with some visual impact has to to be interesting to TV news- I'm sure we could get some air time.

Enough is enough... Action will be taken
Its sickening to log onto this forum each day and see another rider down thread...

Terrible to read this thread. Seems to be happening more frequently now.
We need to do something to get the message out to those who have not been reached about the danger of going to the left of lorries.
RIP.

terrible news, RIP
please less experienced cyclists have a look at this document. It is pretty old, however the section "Advice for cyclist" is still very much relevant. It is worth 30 seconds of your time.

1000 riders in white T-shirts with CAN YOU SEE ME NOW? on the front and HOW MANY MORE? on the back would get some attention. But as the Eilidh ride getting on ITV showed, it's not about getting attention, its about sustaining it.

Can I suggest that unless you actually saw what happened that everyone refrains from jumping to conclusions about what the exact circumstances of the collision where?
It's not helpful.

Do Bike shops offer any safety advice when they sell a bike to a new rider ? These fatalities get hardly any reporting in the mainstream media and what percentage of cyclists take part in/read cycling forums ? Low I'd say

• #124
Thats a really good point about the info when buying a bike, actually.

Agreed re the purchase literature.
