Hi all, I'm new to fixed/ss. Bought a Specialized Tricross single speed a couple of weeks ago from this very forum, which I'm using to commute round London. It has no fixed gear at the moment, toying with the idea of fitting one, but wondering how the hell you go around tight corners if you can't hold the inside pedal up!
Still, I expect the search function will help me...

With great skill my friend, but with great skill....comes great responsibility.

...I'm new to fixed wheel too, although I've been riding in London for years.
I've had a few problems with the pedal digging into the tarmac during cornering. The worst was catching the inside pedal on a sticking out curb bit when cornering (fast). I got thrown sideways into a bollard!
I'm in the process of making some component upgrades to a '08 Fuji track, any tips people?

Hello world. Been a long time lurker round here and thought it about time I signed up. I've been riding fixed out of Sarf East London on a Lemond Fillmore since last summer and have slowly swapped all the components on it. Just built up a new ride with one of those cheap Nelson track frames - great fun!
Been enjoying the forum and the endless wit therein!

Are you Rick Buckler or Bruce Foxton?

Why isn't Paul Weller an option?! In fact I am none of them. Name is not a reference to the popular beat combo despite it's striking similarity...

Hello. Bumped into Edscoble in Wimbledon the other day but he was in a rush. Since he pretty much convinced me to make the leap to fixed, and I browse the forum here a lot for tips and bits, and I follow the LFGSS twitter feed, I thought I may as well become a contributor.
I ride an Edwardes '08 Track, and a little BMX to nip to the shops for rizla.
anything else?

Another long time lurker here too - been pootling around London on my dodgy SS conversion for a few months now, currently getting the cahones together to go fixed - should have enough together one I look behind the fridge...
Hello world.

Since I've been away it seems like lots of new members have been introducing themselves. If your new to the forum and haven't been out on a ride, played polo, or enjoyed trying to do tricks at TrixieDix, you are cordially invited to the New Members Compass Rides. Details are below.
Look forward to seeing all you joiners out and about...Things we do well on this forum, organise and go on a regular basis to Drinks, wherever they may be, and Ride.
So in the spirit of these two elements, comes the all new,
New Members Compass Beer Rides. It has been noted that meeting up with a big group of forumengers that you don't know in a pub can be slightly intimidating. So to make it less so, this idea has been put forward to combine drinks and rides.
Think of it as a Forum Fresher's week, without the hazing, so that the previous months new members get a chance to meet up with, and ride with fellow forumengers. Talk bikes, find out where drinks are, and get a good ride in at the same time
You can come out to the beers closest to you, or trek out to a beers on the otherside of town, safe in the knowledge that you'll be with people who a) know where they are going, and that b) someone will be heading back in your general direction so you can ride home in the company of another forumenger. So For One Week, every couple of months, there will be rides from Trafalgar Sq, to the Beers,
**Monday - Souths @ The Coach and Horses
Tuesday - Norths @ The Flask or
Tuesday - South Easts @ The Kings Arms or
Tuesday - Trixie Dix @ **White's Row Car Park Roof. White's Row, Off Commercial Street
** Wednesday - Easts @ The Royal Inn on the Park
Thursday - Wests @ The Crabtree or The Ship (season dependent)
Sunday - Polo @ Downham Rd Polo Courts.**A couple of regulars from each beers will be at Trafalgar Sq from approx 6.30 for a prompt 7pm departure, (1pm for a 1.30pm departure on Sunday) And will take any new member who so wishes for a ride which will arrive at beers/polo.
The Next Compass Beer Rides will be
May 11-17** 2009**. -

Sounds pretty rad, Cornelius. I don't drink (not out of some pompous moral argument, I am ill in the liver) but would like to put voices to words, since meeting Ed it seems a lot less scary.

• #1567
city gent, glad to know ed's made the forum less of a scary place for you,
you don't have to drink (though I'd be lying if I said it didn't help) at beers, I was off the sauce for three months and still made the weekly journey to south's. But they are the easiest and friendliest way to introduce yourself to people and put some faces to names.Hope to see you out

Hello all, heard about your board through fixedgeargallery.com. I've been riding fixed for about 7 years now. I'm planning a trip to London in May and wanted to hop on the boards and get some advice on where to go by bike. Tentatively my friend and I plan on biking from Brighton to Newhaven and catching the ferry there and then biking to Paris. Probably bring a tent and camp along the way.

I was just wondering how do you get to be a cycle courier in London. I've been riding fixed for the last few months and will be finishing my degree in May. Just thought it would be my ideal job when I've finished for a few months.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hello Everyone.
Are there going to be any bike shops in London open on good Friday?
-
• #1571
hi all, have made a couple of posts on the board but figured I should say a proper hello here. Been riding fixed for about a year, loving it, especially this morning when I raced a geared colleague into work, and won.
