It might not be a creak. Might be one of these (easy diagnostic mistake to make):

I also have this problem on my bike. It is a 2009 Giant bowery.

fruitbat?
Due to my age, my eyebrows sometimes creak. I've never yet heard of a creaking fruitbat (unless of course it is me)

sorry I sometimes have difficulty reading this forum.
I could've sworn it said squeaking. -

Based on past experience, it could be the bottom bracket making that noise. See if you can swap it with a different one.

Just because it hasn't been mentioned check the seat and the seat clamps. I had some weird creaking coming from the plastic seatpan on one of my bikes. My other beater has weird creaking coming from the clamps... but I guess it IS missing one so understandable.

Check chainring bolts.
Then, take the cranks off, grease the taper and put them back on.

besides torque, is there is proper way to install chainring bolts?

If you have a torque wrench, use it. I just tighten it hard and never had a problem. Fiddy says he's afraid he'll brake his (£150+) so he only lets shops do it. I don't have expensive cranks so I don't worry.

common problems -
botttom bracket has rusty bearings with water ingress- not so common now with carridge versions but still does happen....
bottom bracket not fitted with grease,
chainring bolt loose,
saddle- where the two rails come into the nose and bears against the metal plate, a squirt of WD40 into the recess helps,
carbon seat pin saddle cradle,
bars/stem.
You can be unlucky and have a creaking rear hub.Just buy a new bike.........

pedals
does the sound come on a down stroke on one side or both sides ?
when you apply pressure to the pedal -
• #21
Set cranks horizontal, stand on pedals, gently rotate cranks 180, stand on pedals again. If this makes creaking noise, then it's not the rear wheel. Repeat, standing on crank arms instead of pedals to work out whether pedals or BB are responsible.

Tighten all your nuts and bolts. It's probably your crank arms.
Or just throw the whole bike away.

its a new bike
its the wheels (rookie mistake, i didnt realise how loose they had become, i should of checked them first as factory built wheels need to be seated then trued and tensioned again)when i put the power down the spokes were twisting which was causing the creaking, luckily theres no damage to the wheels.
now i have another problem (lucky me)
the freehub is catching, sorting that out now as the bike came with a 1 year warranty that covers the complete bike
hate asking for help but has come to the point were i have to
(bike is a centrum sport 08 new approx 120 miles)
really annoying creak
its only when i put the power down, when cruising along its ok but as soon apply power i get a really annoying creaking noise
thought it might be the rear wheels spokes come loose as its a new bike so I tightened them up and trued the wheel, there is now difference
the chain lubricated and tight enough but stretched a inch or 2 would this be the problem? it still sits on the teeth ok so i dont know
What else should I check
Thanks
