  • If you need any help just let me know, i'm going down to Brick Lane today as my housemate had his Brian Rourke stolen yesterday.

Lets get a troop and smash some people in.

    Justice.

  • Really sorry to hear this Mark- I'll keep my eyes peeled in the wastes of SE London.

  • The dirty fuckers. Do get the feeling that theft is going to be rife this year not that its already bad enough. The only shot I have, below.

  • Fuck, sorry to hear that.
    Will keep my eyes open.

  • Aw fuck! Sorry H, will keep my eyes peeled.

  • horatio, bad news dude. will certainly have my eyes peeled around town

Best head badge in the world disappeared with that bike :(

Anyone know anything about insurance? I was just checking my M&S policy, which ended March fucking 26th and was replaced by a new one backed by AXA. It looks like the new one doesn't cover goods away from home (that's an optional "extra"). I got M&S because of bikes. Am I screwed?

i think its been an optional extra for a couple of years - but quite a cheap extra from what i remember.

  • I had it when I bought the policy March '08. Don't know if I had to pay extra or not. All I know is I spent a few minutes on the phone with the guy making sure of it.

  • BAAAAAAALLLLLSSSS!!!!
    that is such shit.

my front wheel just got stolen off my polo bike from under my nose (middle of the day.) on the search for a new one as we speak.

    i feel for you bro.

  • Check your last policy and if it covers bikes off the premises then your new policy should offer you the same protection.
If you need a bike for a few weeks (Rouen) you are welcome to the Electrolux.
I have just had an epidural so no bikes for abit.

  • Can I ask what lock you used?? I locked my bike up out side the Lauriston sometimes.....

    Hope you get it back!

  • i was around brick lane today and didnt see anything that looked like it

  • sucks.
    how did they steal it?

Can I ask what lock you used??

Also interested......in how it was locked. The info will make others that read this thread more aware.

I had 2 bikes stolen (over 15 years), and both times it was my fault.

First time, unlocked in public, and stolen as I turned my back - 12 seconds.
Second time, locked with ultra cheap, pickable, and easily croppable locks.

  • not your fault GA2G! Just cos you didn't lock it properly, doesn't mean the bastards have a right to take it! ... you shouldn't be so hard on yourself :) Is there a definitive GA2G Lock list?

I think the x2 Lock method is best. Chain through the frame, mini D on the back.

    Yes there is. Ultimate locks.

You're wrong though, it was definitely my fault.
Thieves took advantage of my naivety in the first instance, and my lack of knowledge in the second.
That's why I made the lock list, to help others choose the options I didn't know about.

I also agree with the 2 lock method.

  • has anyone got any further with the vigilante bike theft plan

the longer we leave it the more bike will go missing

if we can catch a few shits and spread the word it may slow down the rate of theft

sad news horatio the feeling returning to the spot where it was is always one of the worst

  • Just seen this thread Mark. Sorry to hear about the bike. I'll keep my eyes open for it and hope someone spots it so it can returned to it's rightful owner.

  • Another tragic loss... I ate at a place in Vic Park Village a few weeks ago and there was a really dodgy-looking crew of yoot circling around on their bikes, eyeballing other bikes and generally being quite intimidating. I used to go there a lot when I lived in Mile End and don't remember it being bad but now I hear of a lot of theft and attempted muggings around there...

  • Mark I'm sorry that the following consolatory beer was at such a crap venue as well. Matt and I will still carry on looking. Did you also go to Columbia Rd in the end? I think there's also a market in Hoxton too, so should maybe check it out.

  • Very sorry to hear this Horatio. Really hope you get this back. Will also keep a look out on my travels around this area

  • Can only join the chorus of sorry to hear and adding another set of eyes...is your number in the private numbers thread?

  • that sucks the fat one dude. i hope you get it back.

  • You certainly need to be carefull there. As I was leaving (royal inn on park) friday night there were 3 or 4 youth on two scooters riding back and forth along grove/lauriston road, slowing down and scoping the bikes outside the pub each time they passed. I half expected to be jumped by them as I cycled off. Shit luck dude.

  • anyone up for scoping out the lauriston some time
once again i'll offer the services of one of my bikes to be used as the dummy bike and a cheap lock they will be able to cut through
