Help! My beloved Litespeed was stolen this Saturday. It is very unusual as it has the S&S couplings in it, so you take the frame apart in two pieces.
Specs:
Frame: 52cm Litespeed titanium with S&S Couplings (see how they look on a comparable Merlin frame: http://www.sandsmachine.com/a_mer_r1.htm ), unpainted frame without decals.
Fork: Litespeed Carbon, with white LITESPEED decals.Groupset: Shimano Ultegra, 9 speed
Crankset: Shimano Ultegra, 170mm, 48-38 (very unusual!)
Wheels: Mavic Cosmos
Tyres: Continental Ultra Gatorskin, front 23c, back 25c
Seatpost: Thomson Elite black
Seat: Specialized black and grey
Stem: Thomson black
Aluminium handlebars with black tape
Pedals: Look silver
Computer mount for VDO1.0+ wirelessAny sighting, please call me: 07872032043, will pay a reward

The British crowd that is, they never go to the rescue, they just observe the said incident, and then write to the Daily Mail about the lack of police stopping bike theft.
You know what to do if you don't like it...

Damn! this is a depressing read. Really hope you get your bits back. I just wanna reiterate: PITLOCK PITLOCK PITLOCK. They can also be modified to lock down a brooks saddle, I'll try and find an image...

do pitlocks work on track hubs?

shit, a fuckload of bikes being stolen right now.
maybe because:
- school holidays
- recession
- lots of bikes going to be bought / sold over easter

What I used to use if I ever locked my bike up was a Kensington lock (bullet type not laptop fixing for PC's) , wrap it through the saddle rails and around the drops on the frame keeps the saddle to the bike (I know if they really want to steal it, it will go) but at least it was a deterrent.

Thieving scum come out in the warm weather/out of prison I can tell you lots of stories of how they work. Speak to the nearest Evening Standard vendor to see if he can "help" retrieve any bikes/parts or just offer him a reward.

My front wheel and someone's Plug were stolen from work today (bike rack inside Chapel Place), should be able to find them on the video security but very irritating.
If anyone sees a cheap 650 wheel on brick lane at the weekend (Low flange DA track hub to black mavic XM317 rim, 36h radial with black conti tyre), can they buy it back for me on the cheap or punch them in the jewels, tah.

seems that the popularity of bike has increased and the thieving scumbags are like pigs in shit, cos no one gives a shit.
even if they get caught, nothing will happen, and this goes for most things that involve stealing.
stealing is ignored by the authorities because i think it would probably cost too much in man hours to control it, but im probably stating the obvious. - school holidays

Yeah, lately i'm getting pretty paranoid about my bike.
Pretty sure it's only a matter of time before it goes - how messed up is that!!?
My housemates bike was stolen 2 days ago - in broad daylight - they chopped through TWO locks.....what the hell can we realistically do? -

-
• #1865
not sure what locks but they were two chain locks.
It was outside the barbican between 2pm and 4pm.
There must be a couple of guys who go around with a van all day, scouting for bikes that they just keep rounding up - it's not opportunist theives at all - its all so disgustingly planned.
Bring on the wasp sword thing.

Be careful out there. My Litespeed (see previous post) was also locked with two locks to a bike rack and stolen in broad daylight on one of the busiest streets in London...
It was taken at around 2.30PM this Saturday from the bike rack between John Lewis and House of Frasier off of Oxford Street! -

Good idea Multi_Grooves, and not really discussed enough. I'm going to add some skewer locks to the Ultimate Locks thread.

With the increase in popularity, and the approaching summer, we all need to made it crystal clear to the people we know that may take up cycling this summer, that it it IS NOT FUCKING COOL TO BUY STOLEN BIKES.
A lot of people just do not see the down side to it.

Down brick lane sunday, guy on last pavement sale on right before Rocket, had about 10 brooks saddles, and shit loads of seat posts, Condor etc, plus random wheels including front formula hub/Mavic open pro. Looked V dodgy. Worth a look if anyone lost/looses a seat this week.

by the looks of things people should put their priority 1st on getting a NY lock or better.
Anything less seems to cause bikes to whistle off to a parallel universe.
there should be a sticky about this, just putting things squarely for new forumgers to read.
London is just fucking nuts at the moment where stealing bikes is concerned.
Spending £60 on a good lock is essential.
well... i my bike's seatpost bolt is an original weird 1950s aluminium one with a hex bolt on it (bolt bolt, not an allen bolt). i used locktight on it, but the f*ckers still managed to whip it off.
when i replace it, i'll chain it to my frame. that sucks.
