Yeah, I'd avoid touring with just a messenger bag. I use a reload bag, which is of comparable quality to a Chrome. The thing is, once I get off the bike, if there's any more than just a kilo in it it starts to aggravate my shoulder. On the bike, I can bike for a few hours, but it still doesn't have the support of a backpack. Maybe look into chromes (and other companies) messenger backpacks. They've gotten good reviews.
