  • Are you sure I can't tempt you to kiss a comatose skinny lumberjack?

  • If push came to shove, I would use a support sling to immobilise an asymmetric fringe.

  • Spot on, as ever, BMMF.

I shall call Cliff and order a Royce Asymmetric Fringe.

An immediate solution to BB ills.

  • Hang on. You commute on a Pinarello?

  • Hang on. You commute on a Pinarello?

Doesn't everyone? Save the classy stuff for the weekend.

  • Hang on. You commute on a Pinarello?

    Too right!

  • Hey kowalski, I glazed over halfway thru the thread but in case you still need a solution I have a Campag Athena BB that has a 111mm axle but fully adjustable cups like a Miche so you could tweak the crank a coupla mil back to the right to clear the chainstay. Give me a shout if it's of use. Oh, it's English threaded... no idea what your 'Pink Pinacolada' is, so over to you...
p.s. just spotted a Rossin I just bought has the same Campy BB (not sure if it's Athena) and it must be Italian threaded so choice of nationality available.

  • Cliff's only away for a week. Probably to get a break from my constant questioning come to think about it!

  • Ha! OK, ta.

    Thanks,dude.

I need an Italian threaded BB. The Pink Pinacolada is a brightly-coloured Pinarello Surprise Pista.

Biggest surprise being the cranks don't fit.

Clearly, at this point I'm wondering why i sold my fully functioning 75s for Pistas...

I left the old girl with Clarke this morning.

Still no firm resolution, but he reckons (contrary to CONdor's opinion) that the Chorus 111mm is asymmetrical, where the Centaur/Veloce is not. He's stuck a Veloce in and reckons it's better but not bang on.

Makes sense to me, with the right crank having more clearance than the left. You'd have to assume (!) that clearance would be equal.

I'll collect her Monday morning and have a butcher's.

Thanks again for your offer of help.

  • Depends on your rear hub, but I'd suggest fitting a 113mm BB, and trying a 2mm spacer between hub and sprocket. Chainline preserved, and as long as you have enough thread on the hub, then the lockring will still fit.

Could try 112 bb , or an adjustable one with 1mm spacer, if that gives you enough clearance.

  • I've tracked down a 112 Royce with Italian cups for fifty quid, just waiting for confirmation of the taper. It's adjustable, so might be the solution.

Still have to wait for Cliff to come back from his holibobs to score the installation tool, unless anyone hereabouts has one they can lend?

  • Like I say, I have an adjustable Campy one and it would be a lot less than fifty smackers, the choice is yours!

  • Sorry,dude.

Thought you meant the English was for sale, the Italian was in use.

    Could well be interested, then.

I'll give you a shout on Monday when I get her back.
