It really isn't that difficult. I have watched the videos on Youtube and just tried it on an old wheel (as described ^).
I have then just used my own fork to build a proper wheel and it worked out well. After two weeks I went to one of the LCC borough bike workshops (free) and used their truing stand to get it 100% true.
