Question about training brakes

Posted on
  • I have seen some japanese bikes with training brakes...i.e brakes that bolt on rather than fit onto mounts or braze-on. Does anyone know what the options are or even where I can get one? (front brake obviously)...Buddha

  • keirin clamp-on brakes .. they are available thru tokyo fixed gear buddha, i think..

  • what's in the pipeline?

  • Hubjub have them - http://www.hubjub.co.uk/etc/diacompezm.htm
    Think they're in stock too

  • Thank you Mr Cheese I kind knew will had them but I can never navigate his sight - they are ugly though - they will do in a pinch - is their a more elegant solution?

lpg I am putting together a C-Record era Tommasini track bike I don't want it drilled BUT then from time to time I might want to run a brake

  • i'd say just drill it! much less hassle ...

  • I want one of these

    only made by Italians

  • so will you be riding brakeless most of the time, like the bareknuckle?

  • The Pinarello has brakes, the Dahon has a brake, the half finished de Rosa has a brake but for all the flash the lowley bareknuckle is still my favourite - the Tommasini I think I will walk everywhere lookin cool so its doesn't really need a brake - i said to my girlfriend that the alfa romeo 8c competizione doesn't go round corners very quickly - she said with something that beautiful who wants to go fast...;)

  • i know what you mean, out of the Mercian, the Kuota, half-done Ridgeback beater, the bareknuckle's my favourite too! prolly cos i've ridden it the most..

  • The Pinarello is effortlessly fast but I find drop bars, gears, brakes are a nightmare traffic - whereas the bareknuckle you just throw it about and skid it a bit to scrub off speed - I don't want to start a debate about riding brakeless - but without brakes I err on the side of caution - whereas before I'd race anyone and everyone - now if someone goes past I am chill

  • half-done Ridgeback beater - is that fixed mountain bike lpg ?

  • yeah i know exactly what you mean. i don't like the hand position on the hoods on drop bars in any kind of traffic, makes me feel nervous. and gears just seem to get in the way, especially in bad weather.

the ridgeback is just a 5 or 6 year old alu frame, it was one of my first proper bikes i bought it in 2003. it's shit really but i've got so many bike bits and bobs i thought i might as well build a bike that i don't much care for and don't mind locking anywhere. it's got vert dropouts so it'll be singlespeed, using an old rear mech for tension, with flat pedals no straps. just waiting for a cheap enough SS crank on ebay + a BB.

can't wait to see the Tomasinni, knowing you i'd be NOS period-correct, not a scratch on it!

  • I'm building an NOS Moser to be 8 speed Record currently.

I bought a de rosa frame of ebay a while back to build up as a road bike but it was too small so all the 'bits' I have lieing around are going on that - my very first 'conversion'

50/14 it just has to be done - period road bikes - you just have to have one!

  • Do you have any French bikes?

  • Just picked up a 70s 10 speed racer in need of restoration, made in West Germany. Its a right mess, only paid 35 quid for it though. am looking foward to fettling with it.

  • I'd like one of these to go to the shops
