Why in the middle of the fork, and not in the dropouts or in the crown
do you have a pic of the welding?
more space to flex, at either end there is no give. same principle as windows i guess, they are easy to break in the corners because the impact is dissipated through the distance from the impact point to the points it's fixed.
And you can easily insert a supprt in the middle. i don't think it makes it that much more unstable. be good to see the finished product
