Electrical insulating tape; just the right width, cheap and works. And you can color co-ordinate the inside of your rim with other parts of your bike; only you will know and you'll feel special.

Cloth or plastic.
-
• #6
Thanks, looks like I'm picking up some cloth rim tape.
If only I could remember the name.
-

Velox for me. Great stuff. I've used plastic but it seems to split much more easily.

Saw these on Planet X though (scroll to bottom).

Velocity veloplugs, interesting, not sure if they would work as well as tape though (less coverage = less protection?). -

Rim tape can't weigh that much.
Why would you need to use plugs?

You're all crazy. I've been using electrical tape for a couple of years with no problems; and that's couriering.
-
• #15
continental high pressure rim strip is the best thing I've used.
velox cloth ffs, cos people don't know any better, anything over 110 psi and it creeps into the eyelets/nipple holes over time.
You can run HPs at 160 with the conti stuff, and I have.

• #16
do you get issues of the tube slipping round?
-
• #17
No issues of any kind; it just works. Used it as a stop gap once then realised it worked and have carried on using it; you can wrap it single or double, quick, easy, effective.

This seems to be the case.
I was thinking that if you had issues with a spoke or nipple you could replace it easier than with cloth. Cant say I'm convinced myself though.

I've used electrical tape, Velox, Pedros tape and probably lots of others. They all do the same thing. The end.

I love internet shopping.
Yesterday at 1pm I ordered the Continental high pressure rim strip, only because it was the same price as Velox.
It arrived today at 9am with free shipping from ProBikeKit.com
No hassle at all.

Cheapskates the pair of you. ;p
-
• #23
They don't use skates - they just gaffa tape bread knives to the soles of their Sidis.
-
• #24
bread knives are no good, too many teeth.
-
• #25
you use cleavers ;)
I feel stupid asking this but I don't know much about clinchers and just got a new pair which will have high pressure tires mounted.
Tape is needed to protect the tube from inside of the rim.
I've seen cloth, rubber and plastic.
Does it matter which type I get?
