Re-covering my cloth saddle... How?!

Posted on
  • Easy.My beautiful old Selle Italia, 'Mundialita' cloth saddle has been rubbed and ripped raw by my sand-paper crotch.I've bought some pimpin black/white polka dot cloth to re-cover it, but i'm hesitant...The part that needs covering seems to be glued down and i'm worried that I might screw up the whole saddle by ripping it off.Has anyone tried this before? Has anyone suceeded at this before?! Has anyone got any tips?

  • I've got a tip for you.
Go down to your bike shop and buy a new saddle, you cheapskate...
    Spend us out of recession.

  • That blasted recession cost me my job so don't go tellin me to buy new saddles. I an't spendin nuffin nowhere sonny jim! Luckily, before i turned skint, I picked up a gorgeous old pinarello frame off Jos n Keith. I'm halfway through finishing it and reckon this is one job I can do on a budget.

    Perhaps...

  • Any shout outs for where I can buy some leather to re do a saddle.

  • Used leather jackets on eBay are supposed to be a pretty good source of thin, supple leather for Flites etc. Can't comment, haven't done one myself...

  • Or buy a cheapo handbag from a charidee shop...

  • Upholstery stores usually have offcuts or even cheap leather jacket makers in brick lane area etc always have offcuts. I used to get them from a stall on spitalfields markets too... was £1 for a good sized piece last time I went.

  • Good shouts. Thanks.

Last time I used a leather jacket I found in my mums wardrobe!
