Routes Database

dudes does anyone have any routes south, approx 40-50 miles, a couple of hills, some scenic bits, got to start getting out more on the weekends, and need to put some miles in the legs, any preferred routes you know the dilly-oh, post 'em up and I'll start getting out on the geared bike for a bit more training...

also does anyone know some of the routes that brixton cycles take on a sunday, out from crystal palace, as I wouldn't mind having a go on them...

I took my freshly built up geared bike out last sunday. With no real destination in mind I left from East Dulwich, headed past my parents place in Beckenham, cutting passed the town centre to the left of the station, straight through to Bromley, passed the market square and straight on, following signs to Biggin Hill.

I had figured that would have been a good destination but I only had about 20k on the clock by the time I got there, so I headed on passed the air field, took a left at a signpost to Downe and found myself on a beautiful little country road. Stumbled on Charles Darwin's house after a mile or so and stopped for a cup of tea (lycra shorts in the cafe mmmm yeah), then carried on. Turned right after a while and started following signs to Sevenoaks. Avoided the turning to the M25 and got on the A21, or 22 or something, and headed pretty much straight to Sevenoaks. Got there with 46k on the clock and turned back. It was such a nice route a followed it back the same way (didn't want to get lost either!).

Lot's of beautiful country roads, with high hedges and quick corners leading out to stunning views across green valleys bathed in afternoon sunshine. Heaven. I also found out that I'd inadvertantly ridden across the Downs to get to Sevenoaks. Hit 56kph on one downhill, and that's with two wheels that need trueing and some of the oldest tyres I've ever ridden on! Bodes well for the Tour of Flanders. I hope...
