Ok.. this is doing my box in now. Got a clicking crank, it's getting worse.
I got a crank puller and took off the chainring side... greased it up good and it's a bit better now, but I couldn't for the life of me get the left-hand crank arm off, threads are totally goosed.
I really want it off to grease it up, any tips ? Or just run it down to Denton or something ?
-
• #654
you sure its the crank? had clicking in my drive train and it was the chain. dont think you're suppose to grease the crank taper anyway.
does anyone fancy a ride tonight btw?
-
• #655
A few people said the same thing, that it could be a few things... I heard from a few people that greasing the taper is required... but then a few who said not to. So I thought I may as well try it, I reckon it's a bit better since I greased the right-hand side.
Clicks piss me off.

Got some rear wheel fodder today, just need to get some spokes and a sprocket and then without any screw ups I should then be riding fixed.

I think there's two schools of thought on greasing tapers. Mine's not greased, and it has been solid, smooth and silent since it was put on.
-

i always grease my tapers. makes it much easier to get off. Make sure when you put the crank puller in that its as tight as it can go so that you don't damage the threads. Also, when you put the cranks back on tighten them to buggery ! could also be your bb clicking depending how old it is ?!
-
• #659
Yeah I haven't ruled out that it could be my BB. I can't explain how much the clicking does my box in. The crank puller doesn't go in at all on the left side, the threads are totally screwed.
Gonna have to be brute force, bit of boiling water and a mallet maybe...

Locked up my bike outside Halfords (town centre) next to a shiny department store full sus. bike and was in Halfords for about 5-10mins to come out and find a guy standing in the corner next to the bikes with a medium size black sports bag at his feet (it looked a little heavy when he picked it up), when he saw me walking up to my bike he walked off (looking at me a few times and then back over his shoulder) and into the food store just up from Halfords.
Bike liberator much? the other bike was just locked with a very cheap chain. -
• #666
i sometimes lock my bike up there and something always happens, usually some dodgy looking guy watching me and once when i was in halfords for 2 mins, saw a guy walk over and pick my bike up, then walk off.
i never lock my bike up in town now unless its outside a pub where i can see it or something.

I've never had any problems apart from having a light nicked. I guess there's not that many outlets up here for fg paraphenalia. Got me worried now though

Anyone want to go for a ride this evening? there's nothing going on here, so I should be free.

Shit. Just rotafixed my cog off and it would seem my hub threading is dead. Won't go back on. Anyone got a rear wheel !?
GUTTED.
-
• #672
Shit, this happened to me a while ago, and Matt I think. What hub was it that you stripped?
I just took my wheel apart, bought a new system-ex type hub for £20 and got a build for £10.
-
• #673
I was running a stock pista rear wheel, annoying thing is I was wanting the hub relaced to a black deep v, not happening now as I can't afford both!
Phil where'd you get such said parts ?
Cheers , M.

http://www.cyclebasket.com/products.php?plid=m9b0s415p1331 For the hub
and wheel build from dentons cycles, if you give them the rim and spokes.

• #675
is dentons still open?
To be honest, it's a tad small and riding it just wasn't fun. It's a nice frame with decent components, but I wasn't enjoying riding it, so it's gotta go.
Where do you play? - I'd love to come along and meet the Northern fixed crowd and maybe scope out ideas for an article, too.
It's around that size - there are some pics here;
