I'm planning to get to the first one on the 3rd--6:30 start so aiming to get there at about 6. Leave work early to take the riding up there easy--it is about 15 miles or so from Central London. Later in the year it'll be more relaxed as the start time will get pushed back.
I'll probably miss lots later, but as I've never done a time trial season I'm keen to do one this year and see how/whether I improve as the year goes on.
When would you be able to make it, and where do you want to meet?Flanders on the 3rd but later on I'll be free. I work near LP street so I dunno Old st RAB? Depends if you know the way? :)
How about we sort it out later when I know I can make one. -

Hog Hill is a lot closer. It's not going to be fast but it could be a laugh anyway.

I wouldn't both riding Hog Hill fixed. TBH, I'd rather get out to the F20 or E14a. The ride to Hog Hill's not much fun.
Like I said before, can't do any of these till late June, unless there's a sudden need to use up holiday allowance, and no domestic/social commitments that take priority.
Simon, the way you're going at the moment, I wouldn't put an 18 past you on the F20 :O

I've never managed to ride Hog Hill yet (whenever I've been there's been a race on), but from looking at it I can only echo BMMF as not suitable for fixed.
Yeah, let's sort out a meet-up later than the 3rd April. I know the way with my eyes closed, although I'd probably prefer to meet at the Lee Valley Ice Centre or somewhere else less central. Closer to the time, as you say.

It's really not very far from Hog Hill to Navestock.

I'd prefer out-and-back courses to circuits. Fast is good but I'm only racing myself so it's not really important.

Circuitist.

• #184
Damn right! I like to go up and down rather than round and round.

And in case anyone's wondering what my issue is with Hog Hill fixed, it's not the up/downhills (you know me better than that!), but the number of tight corners.
Clary's at Eastway was bad enough on fixed :D

For me, it'd be both. ;)

what's going on in this section surely the discussions should be about time trialling on a fixed gear
about what gear- inch you used and what time you did for a particular course and conditions.
i once did a ten in 26 30 on gears then the following week rigged up a fixed gear on a 76 inch and did a 24 30.
this year I might try an 81 inch or even an 86 inch
using a langster with 48/16 or 48/15
why are there pictures of geared bikes?I understand where FWTTist is coming from, but I find this view too fundamentalist to be practical for my own purposes.
I prefer to time trial on fixed* if it's reasonable to do so.*
I'm not going to attempt, for example, to ride the Circuit of the Dales on fixed, and if the weather forecast tells me there's likely to be a strong wind blowing along the course I'm about to ride on, I'm not going to waste my entry fee and the cost of the petrol by insisting on not using gears. -

Came home today to receive my start sheet for my first event of the year, a 21 mile event organised by Tooting Bicycle Club over the GS334 course in Surrey - never done this before; could be interesting. Off fourth by the look of things.
It could be v v embarrassing - I have the potential to be beaten by a 79 year old (Steve Aveley - Tooting BC), plus a 60 year old lady (Gillian Reynolds - the wife tells me that she is pretty handy and likely to beat me!!).
Looks like its a session on the turbo for me this we - maybe a case of too little too late....
Suspect there won't be many fixed - it's hilly without a dual carriageway in site.

Don't worry too much about the elderly - sporting couses don't suit us.
The only advantage we have is experience, but this is much easier to gain than it is to regain youth and vigour. One comment on last minute training: Try to arrive at the start line well warmed up but not exhausted by heavy training sessions in the preceding few days.
Good luck, Willo.

First TT of the season for me, the Corinium CC 2Up TT. It's the first time I've ridden 2Up, although rode it with the gf so I wasn't unfamiliar with her riding style.
10 miles comprising 4 lengths of the course running north south. With 20+ mph winds and gusts over 35mph it was great on the south but grovelling on the front going north (I wouldn't know about the draughting, I'm the stronger rider so had to do all the headwind work). Nonetheless, we managed to post a respectable time of 29.34, a pb for the gf. Looks to be a lovely course to try on fixed; straight, quietish with broad roundabouts at either end and negligible climbing.
Would rather do it in the rain than in that wind again though.

^^WELL DONE TSK^^nice one

That's cool that your gf goes out racing with ya. Nice work!
Where is the course? Can you do us a google map link please?

It's more that I go out racing with her. She's been racing cyclocross since the age of 13 whereas I'm rather new to the game.
The course is the U48 course, that the CTT site doesn't seem to bother listing. It runs parralell to the the A419 around Cricklade and is a feed in lenght and then two laps through the village of Latton. A north south route that, whilst fairly flat and well maintained, is exposed to the elements. Will be really good on good days and evil on bad days.

Ouch - DNF!
Unfortunately my name is not Armstrong, so no op and a lengthy recovery....
Without wishing to re-ignite an old debate, my helmet is in two pieces.

Ouch, what went down, apart from you obviously.

To be honest, I have no real idea. Shifted position slightly, next thing i knew front end had gone and i was on the asphalt. Garmin recorded 28mph (satellite, and not wheel based so unreliable, but probably about right).
Hillingdon, so no traffic. For those who know the track, going into the bend before the sheds. Rather embarrasingly no other rider involved.
Typing left handed is a pain in the arse.

Easy to speculate as to what caused that. However, the main thing is that this doesn't count as a DNF. This is an STFO
