  • nice one hippy, good to know you can compete without all the bells and whistles, that way if you ever fancied splashing the cash you'd see the benefit

  • Don't forget that each supporter you have on the roadside is worth 5 seconds per mile, and free flapjacks.

  • That's why you got a mention. Don't forget the beans :)

  • I won't, old bean(s).

  • Wouldn't mind having a crack at a 10, is there any near me? I'm in Highbury? Could travel abit

  • There's some week night 10s at Hillingdon..
    http://www.westerleycycling.org.uk/WCC-Program/WCC-Program.htm

  • Stupid question but where is the Hillingdon circuit?

  • There are no stupid questions, only stupid people.. :)

  • Nice one hippy! Too true

  • I think there's also going to be an evening 10s series at Hog Hill / Redbridge Cycling Centre.

  • I'm looking for somewhere panflat to suit my lack of climbing skills...

  • And the aforementioned Friday Evening 10s at Navestock:

The E14a is a very easy beginners' course (very few corners) and almost completely flat, which is why I like it.

  • Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. Think I'll be free for them from the June 26th one onwards...

    Is this the right place..

20mi from the office (not counting getting lost) + 10mi + 30something mi home could make for an interesting Fri night :)

Rolla club TT? Is it EOL or snail mail bollocks?

Almost--the start is at the junction of Murthering Lane and Old Road:

I did that when I did two of them in 2007--got out of work late, rode really hard to get there for the start, arrived with two minutes to spare for the first one and not much more for the second one, but they were nice and let me ride. I didn't manage very good times, though--only just broke evens. I hope to better that this year.

    EOL.

  • EOL.

Hi everyone, my club (East London Velo) runs the Navestock Evening 10s in conjunction with Becontree Wheelers. It's a club event (rather than an open) so it is EOL, and everyone is welcome. If you're new to TTing just let us know and we'll be happy to explain anything that you need to know.

Be aware that it is run under Cycling Time Trials rules, so you do need to be a member of a CTT registered club to ride. Unlike British Cycling, where individuals are members, clubs afiliate to CTT and then all their members are eligible to compete in CTT events.

The course is on country roads without too much traffic, there are two left turns and although these are signposted you may want to familiarise yourself with them; the first time I rode it, I went straight past the Tysea Hill turn....

It's a great way to test yourself, and see how you improve over the course of the season. The course is on gently rolling terrain, and should be well suited to fixed gears. If we get some fixed gear riders turning out, I'll get my pursuit bike out and ride that to show solidarity.

  • what's going on in this section surely the discussions should be about time trialling on a fixed gear
about what gear- inch you used and what time you did for a particular course and conditions.
i once did a ten in 26 30 on gears then the following week rigged up a fixed gear on a 76 inch and did a 24 30.
this year I might try an 81 inch or even an 86 inch
    using a langster with 48/16 or 48/15
why are there pictures of geared bikes?

  • 16simon will beat everyone this year, whether he's on gears or not.

Must be the power of 'visualising 14 out of 10', or some shit ;)

No, this section is about time trials. Gearing is not an issue. I like to be more inclusive with my threads.
Once I've got a few benchmarks down riding TTs geared I might ride them fixed until then I'm riding my 'good' bike.

  • Oliver & 16simon: I wouldn't mind doing a 10 on a proper course, ie. not the Hillingdon Circuit.
Hillingdon gets you down a bit going around and around :)

You gonna do any this year?

  • I'll ride out with you for a few, and I'm sure Oliver will join us. Not sure how much 16simon will be involved in the actual organising, but I expect Leslie will want him riding.

Reckon you can get a 20 on this course, 16simon? Or a 19...?

I went straight past the Old Road turn my first time out. :)

I'm planning to get to the first one on the 3rd--6:30 start so aiming to get there at about 6. Leave work early to take the riding up there easy--it is about 15 miles or so from Central London. Later in the year it'll be more relaxed as the start time will get pushed back.

I'll probably miss lots later, but as I've never done a time trial season I'm keen to do one this year and see how/whether I improve as the year goes on.

When would you be able to make it, and where do you want to meet?

  • Hi Scarlett, and others

The Navestock course isn't a very fast course, I think my best time last year was 23.31. So, you won't get an amazing 10 time, but it is a good fun way to get used to TTing and riding at your threshold without the distraction of huge lorries wooshing past you at 60mph.

If you want a fast 10 course that isn't too far from London, with evening club events that you can EOL, try the F20/10. It's an out and back course on a dual carriageway near Hertford, and there are evening 10s run there during the summer, on a Wednesday AFAIK. Last year, I did 20.00 on the F20.... damn, if only it had been 1sec faster I could have claimed a 19min 10.

The E2/10, near Newmarket is also a fast course, bit further to travel to obviously. If you're a member of a club that is part of the Eastern Counties Cycling Association (ECCA - http://www.questronics.supanet.com/), you can get in to the ECCA events that are run regularly on this course. It's also an out and back course on a dual carriageway, my best time on it last year was 20.43.

One of my aims this year is a 19min 10....

  • The Hog Hill Tens , which are the old eastway tuesday tens reborn , start the 2nd tuesday in May. There are easy to enter and if you are not in an affiliated club you join a "club" as part of the entry to the series which enables you to ride. I think membership is a few quid,

I ll post the details once they have been finalised

However, Hog Hill is way out on the edge of Redbridge and its not nearly as close as the Eastway was to the rest of the world. It might be an idea to organise some feeder rides to show people how to get there.

I ve not ridden HH so I don't know what its like on a fixed/SS.
