  • Yo fam.

So I need a 36 hole Rear hub that isnt a System X / Formula etc and was just looking down at OYB at the Primatos they have there... looking good and a good price too but what's this whole carrier mallarky?

I am not down with it at all so... can anybody tell me: Do I have to use this carrier device or can I just wang on my cog from my current formula hub?

    Different thread pitch?

  • There is no need to use Miche cogs with Miche hubs. Feel free to wang your cogs accordingly.

  • ^^^ Word up ^^^

  • Roberto says "9 out of 10 hipsters prefer Miche hubs!"

  • Yeah Miche hubs good btw...

  • hey aeronaught,

just checked with the supplier, they don't bring them in in 36h i'm afraid. sorry to burst the bubble.

  • dont get a miche sprocket for the road, cause they're wank!

Wounder. that NOS front one I got off you a while back was a 36H..

Fu** it I may just grip the whole set off you... as long as I can dash on any cog that isnt Miche I am good to go.

  • I like the miche cogs, great quality. Chain over-tensioners might not like though to to a tiny bit of slack between the carrier & the cog. But I likes.

yeah if 1 in 2 develops play

  • yeah, i'd be surprised if they didn't make them in 36, but our supplier doesn't have them. the NOS one was off an old school road groupset, i think.

  • yeah if 1 in 2 develops play

Its un-noticable unless you have your chain too tight. Makes one think they are expected to do that by the manufacturer.

Price-wise, still think they are great quality.

  • Never had a problem with mine, and that's a second hand pair that I've been commuting/leaving out in the rain for a year and a half. I like the carrier things too - you can change cogs without a chain whip = £18 you don't have to spend on a new tool...

  • I've ridden them on the old Wilier Pista - loved 'em.

  • you can get 36H pairs from ribble I think, I did a few months ago anyway. Small flange.

  • dont get a miche sprocket for the road, cause they're wank!

    Bullshit.

I've got/had a few, they last well. I'll probably buy them again.

Hubs... mine are new, they seem solid but they certainly don't spin like DA.

  • I had a bit of play on my cog/carrier, did not like... Hubs are fine apart from the axles/washers/nuts rusting at the very mention of moisture... So spray liberally with GT85... Roll pretty smooth, anodising is a bitch to get off... Just my experience... Buy vintage Campag instead...

  • don't make me worry teenslain!

  • And don't buy 32s if your a fat fuck/carry a heavy backpack... My flatmate cracked his rear flanges in about 8 months... But he's really fat and carries way too much stuff in his bag... *[Grunt] Pick my bag up! Really heavy, innit? [Grunt] * slash own throat, pull tongue through bleeding hole

well thats my opinion cause i had mine for not too long and they developed lots of play, which in turn led to a slack chain and sometimes the chain even came off! i do tend to skid alot though so put the cog through alot of stress, therefore on road i would not recommend this

  • Sorry I'm late to the party - I have them they're pretty good for the price. You will need a miche thread lockring, but cogs are fine.

  • I have them on my spare wheels... always been happy with them when ive used them

  • Any more views on these kids? worth the extra £'s compared to the formulas etc?

Was looking to lace to the super bargain Rigida dp18s...

    Thanks

  • ^^ Miche primato hubs are good. They have been the standard workhorse hub for track bikes for years before the hipster fixie skidder movement started up. A proper brand/groupset name.

Formula's and the zillion variants will probably do the job as well, but the finishing on the actual hub shells is a lot better, and I reckon stronger and more suitable for radial lacing etc due to lack of cut-outs on the Miche

May I ask danny, where do you get these super bargain DP18's? I know OYB had a few but they are long gone.

  • ^I disagree, from what I can tell they're pretty much the same, the whole 'radial lacing will break your hub' thing is a load of bollox unless you are riding sheriff stars or something. What are you talking about 'standard workhorse hub'? I didn't realise you were into track cycling back in the day. Brand/groupset doesn't really count for much, shimano sora isn't exactly the shiznit and that's a proper brand/groupset. It's been said on other threads, it's just a shell with ball bearings, there's not too much that can go wrong. However, if you have a real loathing of value for money, go for the primatos.
