This is going to sound nasty- but please make sure you are turning the spanner the correct way.
Then, if you are sure you are correct, get an extension bar on the end of the spanner- a metal tube of some kind.
Always easiest to remove pedals whilst the bike is built up, so you are therefore putting the pressure on the tyres rather than on a frame stand.
