Just carry on as normal me old mucker...
P.O.P casts = immobile joint. Other structures can and should be mobile or else they would be included in the cast.
I'm guessing you fractured the proximal head of the metacarpal?
Splint first to accomodate swelling.
Cast second to immobilise and unite.
