How bizarre.
My folks lived in Pershore til last year.
There's a posh bike shop and an Alfa Romeo mender there.
And Toyah lives at the top of High Street. I sold her a Daily Mail when I worked in the paper shop...
Good work, Mashton!

I'm riding home to Newbury in about two weeks from SE London. I think thats about 90 miles and I plan to do it in one day. I have no idea which route to go, though.

Hey I was born in Worcester. Recently rode the short journey from Warwick to Redditch. Hell. Into the wind and hilly.

I'm from Newbury. You encapsulate many of the reasons why I left.

P.S. Well done Matt. Sounds like a good ride. I imagine the second day is a bit tougher than the first though?

@spag-hoops: for the London to Oxford leg we followed [ame="http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Richmond-to-Oxford"]Jonny's
%22%5DJonny%27s route[/ame] in the Oxford ride thread. Which was lovely.
As for Oxford to Worcester, we just took the A44 since no other routes looked feasible. it was actually a really nice road and very easy to navigate! And it goes through Pershore.
@andy: Actually the first day was harder for me, since I failed to pace myself properly and had a bi tof an energy slump in the penultimate 5 miles. Next day we took it easy on purpose and felt a million dollars the whole way. Ate loads and had regular, infrequent rests. Having said that, the hill out of Moreton-in-Marsh up to Boughton-on-the-Hill (!!) was a cunt. Coming down Fish Hill more than made up for it though.
@the rest of you: next time I'll do it fixed, backwards, on a train, in half an hour.
Another observation - having luggage makes my bike slower!

How can Newbury be 90 miles? It's just by Swindon innit?

nice, i was thinking the A44, i normally go that way when i drive, as it's a bit nicer, but does it not have some hairy dual carrigeway bits?
that hill out of Moreton is a bastard!........ and Fish Hill must have been well dodgy!
i was considering doing it fixed.... but we'll see..... i'm not sure i could handle Fish Hill fixed. -

I had gears, my bro was on singlespeed. I think having a freewheel is worth it, just for the fun of descending.
No dual carriageway problems at all on the A44. One short stretch that you won't notice. generally a nice road. And the lanes you get on the Oxford leg more than make up for it.
Fish Hill was so much fun - no traffic and those hairpins felt like an alpine descent. I wish it was about ten times longer. And yes, Moreton -> Boughton was painful on gears, but I am putting that down the heavyish luggage I had on the bike.
I've just completed one of my cycling ambitions: riding from my home in London to my parents' in Worcester. My brother and I did it over two days, staying in Oxford overnight (thanks eyebrows)
I'll put up a proper ride report soon, but just wanted to announce it to the world!
135 miles FTW
